The Blades have started exceptionally brightly here.

The visitors are gifted possession again as Tanguy Ndombele plays a simple pass into touch. Exasperated groans ring around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

  2. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Sheffield United

Serge Aurier's clearance lands at the feet of Oliver Norwood, whose shot from the edge of the box takes a deflection off a Spurs defender before being tipped over the crossbar by Paulo Gazzaniga. Smart save, that.

The visitors fail to make the most of the resulting corner, though.

Lots of pointing and gesturing on the touchline from Chris Wilder already.

This will be Chris Wilder’s first time inside this magnificent stadium.

After Sheffield United’s recent away game at West Ham, he and his wife detoured on their journey home so they could drive past Tottenham’s stadium just to have a look at it. He ended up seeing far too much of it after getting stuck in traffic!

Most of Wilder’s journeys have been seamless this season though. His Blades team haven’t lost away from home in the league since January.

United have lost just one away league game in 2019 (W6, D9) - a feat only matched by Liverpool in the top four English divisions.

However, they have won only four of their 35 top-flight away games against Spurs (D7, L24).

Pochettino's side have kept a solitary Premier League clean sheet this season, a joint-low with Norwich.

Spurs have only conceded more than once in one of their 15 home league matches in 2019, though.

Spurs would be worried about playing against Sheffield United.

Their big issue is the lack of consistency this season. Today is about making sure they play well, Sheffield united are a real team, really well organised.

Man for man Spurs are a better team but sometimes it is not just about that.

Sheffield United continue to impress me but I am going for a Tottenham win here.

I am just a little loath to do so because, away from home, the Blades are still unbeaten and always seem to play well too.

But that run has to end somewhere and the signs are that Spurs are getting back to their usual selves.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder on Tottenham's recent league struggles: "Sometimes things happen and people don't start in the fashion they'd have wanted to, but scratch beneath the surface and what you've got is one of the world's top managers coaching an unbelievable group of players.

"Whatever they do they have world-class individuals and one result will get them up and running. They can't fail with the amount of quality they've got.

"But it's also another great afternoon for us to pit our wits against top-class individuals. We'll be fearless in our approach."

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino: "It is going to be very difficult. They [Sheffield United] work so hard.

"What impressed me the most is the belief, the togetherness, they have the spirit like a rugby team that fights for each other, that is fantastic to see in a football team.

"I was happy [with Spurs' performance] at Everton and now after Red Star, but we need to finish this period winning, but knowing it will be tough against Sheffield United."

The momentum gained from promotion can have a galvanising effect, and Sheffield United have utilised it in their first season back in the Premier League for 12 years.

Unlike many promoted teams in recent years, the Blades have remained largely unaltered either in terms of personnel or tactically and are relying successfully on the methodology which had previously served them so well.

That they sit sixth, with Spurs five places below them, says a great deal, as does the fact that only Liverpool can match their current unbeaten Premier League away record.

Without a win in their last four league games, the hosts will need to up their game considerably to pick up their first three points since September.
