Everywhere Chelsea go the Everton players chase in numbers. Whatever else he has done, Ferguson has got them up for this.

    Richarlison

    Dream start!

My word, Big Dunc will approve of this. It is straight out of the Ferguson play book. Djibril Sidibe's cross is lovely and met by a booming header from Richarlison.

Ferguson celebrates on the touchline like he's scored it himself.

Chelsea, with the first real attack, are halted initially by some resolute defending before Reece James fires a cross (?)... or maybe a shot, over the bar.

For those wondering if Ferguson is a suit or tracksuit manager. It's the former.

Some early terrier-like tackling from the home side. Just what Ferguson will have wanted.

Here we go then. Ferguson's Blues versus Lampard's Blues.

Big Dunc received a mighty roar when he was introduced.

  7. 'I feel a bit sorry for Silva'published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Everton v Chelsea (12:30 GMT)

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on Football Focus

I don't think they have signed a world class striker, which they greatly needed. However, I do feel a little bit sorry for Marco Silva. I think the players could have taken more responsibility about their performances but I don't believe they have bought players where they needed to. They have made good signings, but not great ones. Everton was always one of those clubs you hated going to because it was always so hard. Now people go confident that they can pick up points.

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

Marco Silva was a dead man walking. Surprisingly, he survived a home defeat against bottom club Norwich but Wednesday's submission across Stanley Park was the final straw, a pitiful performance that brutally exposed the chasm that now exists between the blue and red halves of Merseyside.

While Liverpool fight for the title, Everton are in a fight for survival and it might get worse before it gets better.

Opponents Chelsea are aiming for their sixth away win of the season, and only champions Manchester City have scored more on the road.

How Everton must wish they could find someone like Frank Lampard.

    Mark Lawrenson
    Ex-Liverpool defender

Chelsea are going well and picked up another three points against Aston Villa but, now they have made a managerial change, I just fancy Everton to get something from this one.

  11. 'Everton lacking grit'published at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Everton v Chelsea (12:30 GMT)

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC 5 Live Sport

To put the performance in that they did at Anfield was the worrying factor. They had nothing.

It can’t all be on the coach. It would be ideal for Everton to put it all on the manager but let’s be honest it’s not. That’s why they have a director of football role – they’ve signed some of these players.

They have great talent for sure. They have players that should be doing better. But do any of them have that desire and a bit of grit? Looking at them, they all seem like nice footballers.

Maybe Everton should take a punt on a manger with real credentials... Ian Holloway or Nigel Adkins maybe?

Would love to see Sammy Lee given the Everton job. Never been given the chance to prove himself at the top level.

Manchester City v Manchester United (17:30 GMT)

This week, former Everton player Phil Neville (now the England women head coach of course) weighed in on the Merseyside derby on Instagram. Got his fingers burnt.

But he's been at it again, this time chipping in in favour of another of his former clubs, Manchester United, who face City in the Manc derby later...

And ex-City player Sylvain Distin would not let it lie.

  14. 'I hope his players care as much as he does'published at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Everton v Chelsea (12:30 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle and England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ferguson will incredibly proud but also incredibly nervous. It does not matter what sort of player you are, you don't appreciate how hard it is, it does not compare to standing on the sidelines and putting your faith in 11 other men. Those 11 men have seen another man lose his job so they have to step up quick. I hope his players care as much as he does. He cares deeply about that football club. All he will want is his players to mirror him in attitude.

Duncan Ferguson said yesterday that it was not "realistic" to expect him to take on the Everton manager job on a permanent basis.

"This is a fantastic club. Who wouldn't want to be Everton manager?" he added.

Well it seems that Mauricio Pochettino can do without the Goodison gig.

According to a report by The Athletic yesterday , externalformer Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has turned down an approach.

Ex-Valencia manager Marcelino and former boss David Moyes are reportedly on the shortlist of possibilities still though.

Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri are currently engaged in a very relaxed-looking chat in the directors' box at Goodison. They swung the axe earlier this week. Today they get to see the immediate result of that decision.

After that, they've got an even bigger decision to make.
