  5. Taylor booed offpublished at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

Referee Anthony Taylor is booed off by the home fans at half-time, and presumably their ill-will is extended to Michael Oliver who is the VAR official at Stockley Park too.

Let's not forget how good United have been going forward, though, or how bad City have been at the back.

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Pep Guardiola was not happy with that decision at the end.

He stood next to fourth official Mike Dean and started pointing at the other end of the pitch where Manchester United did get a VAR penalty.

Fernandinho was carrying on the debate with referee Anthony Taylor as the teams left the field.

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

Early in this game it was chance after chance for Manchester United. We have finally seen an improvement with Kevin De Bruyne trying to drive this Manchester City team forward. City have not created enough clear-cut chances in this first half though.

But what a start for Manchester United. It’s got to be game over for City [in the title race] if it goes to 14 points.

Danny: Scott McTominay and Fred can develop into a very good partnership in the United midfield!

Michael:Never a penalty against Fred. Where could his arm possibly have went. VAR and the ref have been excellent. Just like United.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

And that's half time after a breathtaking first half.

Boos from some of the Manchester City fans, who are aggrieved with some of the officials' decisions.

VAR has a look and doesn't overturn the referee's initial decision to award a corner. No penalty.

Kyle Walker crosses, Fred slides in and blocks but did it hit his hand...?

  12. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

Kevin de Bruyne lofts a pass to the far post. At first it looks innocuous but it is actually an excellent ball but David Silva mis-hits and the chance is gone.

Two minutes of time added on.

  13. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

Manchester United are sitting deep now as they try to protect their 2-0 lead before the break. It is inviting Manchester City pressure. Dangerous.

David Silva goes for goal from a free kick but again it is comfortable for David de Gea.

Manchester United are the first side to be 2-0 up before the half hour mark of a Premier League game away at Manchester City since Liverpool in November 2015. Some stat.

Aleksander: Bold prediction: This will be Pep's last season at City. Nothing lasts forever, neither did his famous stints at Barca and Bayern, the mood in the club just seems to have completely changed this season and a trophyless season could signal the end.

Owain: Who's that new Fred bloke in United midfield? Has been outstanding so far - different level from how he's performed since his move to the club.

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

Kevin de Bruyne has a battle with Fred, eventually gets the better of the Manchester United midfielder to get a cross in but Victor Lindelof heads clear.

  19. Should City's midfield be doing more?published at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2019

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

It is easy to say Manchester City's defence is not coping with United's attack but they are being left virtually one-on-one.

Their midfield should surely be giving them some protection?

  20. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    Man City 0-2 Man Utd

    Oh, should be 2-1!

Wonderful ball in by Kevin de Bruyne finds Gabriel Jesus. The forward just has to flick a header into the back of the net but he directs it wide.

    What a chance.
