Marcus Rashford plays an excellent ball through the defence for Dan James, who quickly finds Anthony Martial. The forward takes a touch before blasting an effort at goal that once again Ederson bats away.

Gabriel Jesus attacks a ball into the box after an excellent pass by David Silva puts Bernardo Silva in behind. Jesus is beaten to the low cross by Victor Lindelof, who slides in. Shouts for handball, again VAR has a quick check but no penalty.

Raheem Sterling over cooks a ball behind the defence for Angelino and it goes out of play. The tempo to this one is showing no signs of settling down. Both sides are determined to get the first goal.

David Silva plays a ball over the defence, trying to put Raheem Sterling in but the ball is long and David de Gea gathers.

Dan James gets behind Angelino but his cut back is poor and Manchester City clear.

The hosts immediately go up the other end through Raheem Sterling. He weaves into the box, finds David Silva but his shot deflects just wide of goal.

One heck of a lively start to this one.

A breathless and extremely noisy start to the 179th Manchester derby. An incredible tempo to this game so far, matched by an incredible volume in the stands.

David Silva's low pass inside the box is deflected behind for the game's first corner. The delivery is headed away by Harry Maguire but Manchester City regain possession through Bernardo Siva. He whips a ball in but Scott McTominay heads away this time.

Sir Alex Ferguson has taken his seat in the directors' box alongside former Manchester United chief executive David Gill.

Ferguson's last game here as a manager was in December 2012 when Robin van Persie scored a last-minute winner after United had surrendered a two-goal lead.

They went on to win the Premier League title - and haven't properly competed for one since.
