Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche told Match of the Day: "I thought we coped with it [Ancelotti's first game]. We quelled the game in the first half which was the game plan because we thought they would play with energy. We never really looked in too much trouble and then we wanted to progress in the second half. It was a giveaway in the second half and they nicked it.

"It was a poor mistake, Dwight [McNeil] was trying to play inside football and it was not on. He is a fantastic footballer and he will learn. Our two centre-halves were excellent today and I was pleased with the defensive side of the team. We know we have to work for those collective moments of quality in the final third, but it was a good ball in and a great finish to credit them [Everton].

"We think we have got quality and we have shown that at times but some days it is softer than others. Chris [Wood] had a great chance but I think it was just offside. The next pass and the next detail is what we are trying to consistently improve on."

Crystal Palace

More from Palace boss Roy Hodgson: "It is quite amazing the atmosphere the crowd here is able to generate. It's one of the first things other managers say, after complaining about the dressing room. The players always give the crowd something to get behind.

"Hopefully we will get a few more players in during the transfer window to make the second half of the season a little easier for us."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a fantastic effort. I thought Jordan Ayew did ever so well to set up the first goal. The second was one of those wonderful individual efforts that will live long in the memory, get lots of airings on TV.

"He deserves that. A fine rewards for his performance today and this season so far.

"We have two away games coming up and our squad is remarkably limited at the moment - we keep getting hit with injuries. This win, that's three points, three games if you need at least 38 points to stay in the league.

"The whole performance was one of character. West Ham had more time to prepare, their squad was looking strong, they were in good shape. We obviously aren't - losing Christian Benteke a day before the game and Patrick Van Aanholt during the game - but the fact is the players don't allow that thinking to come in. They roll their sleeves up and fight even harder.

"It's a testament to their character and their resilience, and the help from the supporters."

Watford

Watford boss Nigel Pearson: "We were far from at our best today but what should give us encouragement is even when we have not been playing as fluently as we can do we got something out of it.

"I think we frustrated them today and I think you have to do that when you come to places like this. We still have enough time and games to affect our own season and it is as simple as that in my view.

"It is a good point for us. We would prefer to have wins but I think it important we turn into the new year with some hope we can fight for results even when we are not at our best."

Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard: "It felt the same as recent games. They were organised. We need to be better at breaking teams down. I think we have enough to be better than we were today. It needs to be a quick learning process now. When there is no space it’s a different question."

On bringing Mason Mount on at half time: "It had a small impact but it did not change the result. Mason has been feeling rough the last few days. It brightened it a bit but not enough. We controlled the game but we are not getting anything in the box. It’s a testing period but we have to deal with that."

Simon Stone
BBC Sport at Old Trafford

It is 89 years since Newcastle last completed a league double over Manchester United.

That means, conservatively, you would need to be nearly 100 to have any recollection of it.

I doubt anyone at Old Trafford tonight falls into that category.

Norwich City

Norwich City's Sam Byram to Amazon: "We’ve had some unbelievable chances but they also had some great defending. I think Tim [Krul] had one shot to save.

"We're a bit lost for words at the minute as we're just not picking up the points.

"It’s a very disappointing day for us. I think we’re still very confident in that the last three or fours games, we’ve out-played some of the best teams in the league.

"Villa are near us at the bottom and it’s disappointing we haven’t come back with the win.

"We’ll keep positive and try and turn things around. If you keep creating chances like we are then if we were more clinical then the chances will go in."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to BBC Sport: "It was intense, I was so excited, I just wanted to pass that energy to the players and I really enjoyed it.I think we had the chances in the second half to put the game in our favour, but in general in terms of attitude, desire and commitment, it was better than expected, not happy

"I did not know how long the players would last at that rhythm with the demands I made of them but the attitude was spot on. There are no negotiables at this club, there are standards that have to be done at this club and they held them today."

On Mesut Ozil: "I think he played really well. He worked and could have been the difference, we could have scored three or four goals from his balls through. The final product wasn’t what we wanted."

Watford

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster on Nigel Pearson: "He is completely different to what we've had before. It is exactly what we needed. He is manager of the complete club, not just a head coach, he keeps everyone on their toes and that is what you need in the dog fight."

Watford

Watford striker Troy Deeney: "The boys have had a different mentality over the last month or so. This is a tough place to come and if we go and beat Villa it has been a good week.

"Real life cracks on now. Go home, see the wife and baby and then get ready for Villa. On reflection this is a good point."

Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche told Amazon: "We knew it would be awkward and we thought there would be a response. First half, we quelled that response and there was nothing of real consequence.

"We had a golden chance from a fee-kick but maybe it would have been disallowed. In the second half, we tried to bring something to the game but we got done by a sucker punch. It was a really poor giveaway and they capitalised.

"Ashley Barnes we are having to manage. He has a groin situation and we have two games in three days so we are trying to monitor the players. We kept it tight and some of our defending was excellent so a lot of good signs from that. We did not open them up as many times as we would hope, and when we did, that final detail was disappointing."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta: "I am pleased with a lot of things I have seen today and a lot of things we practised that happened today. I am not happy we have not won the game but happy overall.

"It's part of the process to learn when it's time and when it's not. In terms of attitude, desire and commitment it was better than I expected. They are not used to playing at this rhythm.

"I am still learning about the players, about the priorities to make them more secure when they jump on to the pitch. My only aim now is to find solutions, to attack better, defend better, I don't look at the games. The urgency, the impact, needs to be now."

West Ham United

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to Match of the Day: "Disappointed because I think today was similar to Palace at home, where we lost in the last minute. It was a tight game, unfortunately for us we didn't keep that score because we dropped inside our box, allowed them to have possession.

"I need to see the (Ayew) goal again, it was a little bit easy for him to do it in front of so many defenders. But that is football.

"We need to recover as soon as we can. We need to play our home game where we are not having good results - we have two games in a row there and I hope we start winning."

Lee Kibbey: Frank needs a good transfer window or I fear he may be living on borrowed time. Everyone knew this season would be tough, but did people really expect our home form to be this poor?

Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton to Amazon: "We needed it after a tough spell. We lost confidence but today we got back to the basic. It’s given us the foundation to go on and win.

"We tweaked some tactical stuff. We know we’ve got quality in the side but we just needed the basics to be right. Thankfully Conor [Hourihane] got the goal and we've managed to get the three points.

"The Norwich header comes in and it’s never easy but I managed to get across and keep it out. Their second chance was just a reaction save.

"Our two centre-backs were fantastic. Someone like Teemu Pukki is diffcult to mark but they did fantastic.

"This week we wanted to get the basics right with a clean sheet and give everyone a lift.This was always going to be an important period but we’ve got the result and done well."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace goalscorer Jordan Ayew, speaking to Match of the Day: "Yeah, I think it is one of the best I have scored. I want to thank God and the people who support me. It wasn't always easy, but my family and my friends, this football club, because they have been behind me.

"When I had the ball I wanted to try and shoot with my left foot, I pushed it too far and tried to do everything on instinct.

"This victory is for the supporters. We don't choose the time we want to score, it's just when we have the opportunity. We want to enjoy the victory but we have to recover quickly."

Arsenal

Arsenal goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: "We missed a lot of chances in the second half. We should get the three points today but that can happen. I think the attitude of the boys was great but we have to improve our chances.

"He [Mikel Arteta] told us to continue in the same way [at half-time], to try to play, respect our plan, that was working and that was it. Everybody was working hard, we were aggressive and trying to play as he likes. Hopefully we will try to improve. We know the next games are quite hard but we are confident."

Bournemouth goalscorer Dan Gosling: "I’ve always tried to get that into my game. This system suits me a lot more and thankfully I was able to get on the end of Jack Stacey’s pass.

"[Mesut] Ozil was playing in the pockets and causing us problems, the message came on obviously Mikel [Arteta] has come in and has the [Manchester] City philosophy, overall a draw is a fair result."
