Bradley Bicknell: The League's best hope of beating Liverpool was Leicester and even they’ve been simply torn apart.

This is a throwback to Liverpool beating 2nd place Nottingham forest 5-0 in 1988. Liverpool are back on their perch.

    Leicester 0-4 Liverpool

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said of his former club: "They have a great cushion but that can go very quickly. They have the power and strength and now the big thing is the confidence.

"Having won the Champions League, Club World Cup and Super Cup, they have the feeling and the squad is very strong. They will be hard to shift in the second part of the season."

  5. 'We know where we are'published at 22:26 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2019

    Leicester 0-4 Liverpool

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers speaks to Match of the Day: "We played our last two games against two of arguably the best teams in the history of the Premier League.

"We didn’t have enough patience in the first half. We never secured the ball which meant we had to defend for long periods really.

"The players gave everything. It’s a great learning game for us. Credit to Liverpool they played well.

"We just didn’t have long enough periods with the ball. When you don’t against a top team – world champions – it becomes difficult for you.

"We are at the halfway point now. We are 19 games in. It is the bigger picture with these guys. We have come a long way in this period. The players have been brilliant and this is another learning game for them, they see the physicality you need to compete.

"People were trying to put us in a race with Liverpool but we know where we are."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tells BBC Sport: "I am happy about that. I appreciate it because I do not take it for granted and the boys have to do it every three days. We had big chances at the start of the game, did not score with them but stayed in the game and controlled it.

"It is was difficult for Leicester to get into the game, both teams felt the intensity of the season but we controlled it more and maybe Leicester were not as aggressive, maybe because of us and our positioning. We scored a first goal, super, super, cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino can score from that situation.

"We struggled a bit with their build-up in the second half and we won the balls immediately and then scored the second goal, then the boys were flying. It looked really nice.

"1-0 is not even a result, it was a moment and it could have been difficult when they had set-piece but that is OK, I don't expect a game like this to have a free run because they have so much quality and the season Leicester have had. We were very concentrated and the goals were absolutely nice and an important day for us."

Liverpool midfielder James Milner, scorer of the second goal with a penalty, tells Amazon: "I think it was important to start well, we knew they would be fired up. In the first half we weren't as clinical as we could have been but it was a great performance and to get the number of goals was pleasing. A good, solid performance.

"It was a big penalty. We had had a few chances and they are always dangerous so it’s nice to put it in."

On a 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League: "It's one of many successful nights so far this season. We are not even halfway. So much can change and happen. The strength of this team is we tale it one game at a time.

"Trent is getting better all the time. He is unbelievable and there is plenty more to come as we will be on him to keep improving."

    Leicester 0-4 Liverpool

    Leicester City

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel speaks to Amazon: "I think it was a bit tough. We were in the game until the referee had to make himself a hero. Then we lost our composure. They are the best side in the world along with Manchester City.

"We strive to be like Manchester City and Liverpool but they are a lot further along in their journey.

"Dermot [Gallagher] will be on Sky saying it was a great decision. Caglar had less than a millisecond to react. He is desperate to give it, once he does they are never going to turn it over."

"They are a top side. It's theirs to lose isn't it?"

"I don't get on the scoresheet too often. I saw the space from Sadio Mane's pass and thought 'hit it first time'.. Good to get the goals the three points is what we came for. We are made up.

"You don't really think you will be 13 points clear but we are happy to be in this position and we will take it for granted. This is the Premier League and anything can happen."

DJ Sentinel: The major difference between this and title winning Leicester is they don’t have anyone who can change things coming off the bench. That and no Mahrez to make something out of nothing.

Liverpool have kept four clean sheets since Henderson moved back into the middle of midfield. It's not a coincidence. He has been magnificent.

GosBoss: Always knew it would be tough against Man City and Lverpool... but the way Leicester have played is disappointing. It's like the players knew they were gonna lose so just surrendered...got to improve to stay in top four.

You just cannot see Liverpool losing can you?
