  2. 'Everton were impressive'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    FT: Newcastle United 1-2 Everton

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Everton winger on BBC Final Score

I like Carlo Ancelotti's in-game management. At 2-1 they went to a back five and were difficult to get through. Overall a very impressive away performance and it bodes well for the future.

They were lucky not to have given away a penalty, but their defending was alert to that second ball. However, set-pieces is something they have to sort out.

  4. 'Fair results for both sides'published at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Crystal Palace

    Jonathan Walters
Former Republic of Ireland international on Final Score

Crystal Palace were difficult to break down, so all second half it was Southampton. They were pressing and looking to create something. Nathan Redmond had a late chance when he passed to Danny Ings rather than shooting while Palace just pinned their hopes on Wilfried Zaha. A fair result overall.

  5. 'Ancelotti is off to a good start'published at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    FT: Newcastle United 1-2 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a great game. Both teams went toe-to-toe. Everton controlled the game second half and I think people will say they just edged it. Ancelotti is off to a good start.

All over. Big three points for Watford. The Nigel Pearson train moves on.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 3-0 Aston Villa

Ismaila Sarr is down after a challenge from Jack Grealish and the Villa man just pokes the ball into his head while walking off.

There's nothing in it but the cheek of it angers Watford's players and there's a lot of chest puffing. A yellow card calms everyone down.

    Watford 3-0 Aston Villa

Nigel Pearson is all smiles on the touchline as he chats with the fourth official over something. This is a big win for his team today.

    Villa have been poor.

West Ham United v Leicester City (17:30 GMT)

    Simon Brotherton
    BBC commentator

Leicester have taken some big strides since Brendan Rodgers took over earlier in the year, but the manner of back-to-back defeats by Manchester City and Liverpool shows the work that lies ahead to close the gap to the very best.

The Foxes will have under 48 hours to prepare - or should I say recover - ahead of this encounter in the capital, having played on Boxing Day evening. No wonder they have made so many changes.

West Ham, who lost to a late goal at Crystal Palace earlier on Boxing Day, are hovering uncomfortably close to the relegation zone and have lost their last three home games, conceding three goals each time.

A run of just two wins in 13 matches means time may not be on Manuel Pellegrini's side as he tries to find a winning formula.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabs his shirt and shakes the badge at the Everton fans high up in the stands. He has scored three goals in a week under Carlo Ancelotti to deliver six points.

Lee Sinclair: Hope the Newcastle-Everton referee is looked into. Foul throws, corners and free-kicks given that shouldn't be from the start. He is not fit to ref any Premier League or Championship games. A shocking performance.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 3-0 Aston Villa

Douglas Luiz tries to kickstart a counter-attack for Aston Villa but Troy Deeney is having none of it.

He (literally) wrestles him to the floor to break down play. Straight into the book.

  15. 'Neutrals will think a draw is a fair result'published at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 1-2 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a very good game. I think neutrals watching it will think a draw is a fair result but Everton have dominated for large periods. Newcastle have just lacked a little bit of quality in the final third, apart from that their play has been brilliant.

Dean Smith spoke about building the team around Grealish, then sticks him out on the left wing. Tactical naivety. I'm a Smith fan, and he deserves January, but days are numbered

  17. 'A definite penalty!'published at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 1-2 Everton

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Everton winger on BBC Final Score

We've seen a number of incidents in this game. We could have had three penalties so far. For me, it's a push from Djbril Sidibie on Andy Carroll. He does go over easily but it's definite shove and a penalty!

    Wilfried Zaha wants the winner.

He tries to get past Jan Bednarek in the box but there's no way through. He wins a corner instead.

James Tomkins can only head it straight into Alex McCarthy's arms from the resulting set-piece.

Helen: Would genuinely be sad to see Dean Smith go (remember the horror of Remi Garde?) but something has to change. There's no point denying we're in a relegation scrap and will be lucky to stay up...and it's the only way we'd hang on to Jack Grealish.
