    Newcastle United 1-2 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle pressed the ball as high as they could but Everton broke quickly. It's a fabulous cross into the six-yard box. It wasn't the cleanest finish again from Calvert-Lewin but he won't care.

  2. PENALTY - Watfordpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019
    Breaking

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

Matt Targett went down claiming an injury and it's playing Troy Deeney onside. He races into the box and is shoved over by Douglas Luiz.

  3. goal

GOAL - Newcastle United 1-2 Evertonpublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Dominic Calvert-Lewin (64 mins)

Another assist for Andy Carroll, sort of...

This time the big man is stripped of the ball on halfway, Theo Walcott puts Richarlison in behind down the right. His cross is a beauty into the corridor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin miscues it on the slide but it just about bundles over the line.

That move all started with Fabian Delph playing out smartly under pressure from the edge of his own area. Hat tip to Mr Ancelotti.

Any Villa fan who thinks Smith is the right man is naive and will be watching Smith's Villa in the Championship next season. But it's ok because he is a Villa fan himself!!

Anon (remember to include your names on texts please)

Any Villa fan who says Smith ISN'T under pressure for his job is naive. Success is dictated by results which we are not getting. Same tactics week in week out and performances are getting progressively worse. Yes Deano is a 'local lad' and got us promoted, but he is taking us down right now.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Southampton 0-1 Crystal Palace

Moussa Djenepo replaces Che Adams, who had a shot saved a few moments ago for Southampton.

    Newcastle United 1-1 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a very exciting game this I've got to say. It was a fantastic save by Martin Dubrvaka.

  7. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 1-1 Everton

Everton back ahead - no! Another good save from Martin Dubravka, with his knees this time, to deny Richarlison and the loose ball is put away by Mason Holgate. He was offside though.

Moise Kean is replaced by Fabian Delph.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

Nathaniel Chalobah is the man sacrificed for Adrian Mariappa's red card despite only coming on at half time.

It's Craig Dawson who comes on in his place.

  9. 'Poor defending from Everton'published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 1-1 Everton

    Kevin Kilbane
Former Everton winger on BBC Final Score

Everton were marking zonally but Andy Carroll has been clever, because he has a free run. They are vulnerable to set-pieces with this system. In that situation with Andy Carroll you need a mixture of man-marking. It's poor.

Andy Carroll has provided three assists in his last five Premier League games, as many as he'd registered in his previous 89 combined.

    Ha ha ha ha.

  11. RED CARD - Adrian Mariappapublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

Henri Lansbury touches it past Adrian Mariappa and is clattered into. Mariappa is already on a yellow and the second sees him pick up a red.

Watford are a goal up but a man down now.

  12. Postpublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Southampton 0-1 Crystal Palace

Danny Ings is doing his best to conjure up something. He drives at Mamadou Sakho in the box and smashes it into the side-netting.

The referee thinks it took a touch off Sakho and he's given the Saints a corner, much to the annoyance of the defender.

  13. Postpublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 1-1 Everton

Moise Kean gives the ball away badly and it ends with Andy Carroll smashing the ball straight at Jordan Pickford. The home side now bouncing.

  14. Postpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 1-1 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you do zonal marking, you are asking for problems. Andy Carroll used his experience and went to the back post and it left him with Leighton Baines and will all respect to Baines, he isn't going to beat Andy Carroll in the air. It was a great finish and left Jordan Pickford with no chance.

  15. CLOSE!published at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

Nathaniel Chalobah links up with Gerard Deulofeu on the edge of the box but his throughball is intercepted.

It pops up in front of him and he hits it first time on the volley, catching it sweetly but firing it inches over the bar. Nice effort!

  16. goal

GOAL - Newcastle United 1-1 Evertonpublished at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Fabian Schar (56 mins)

What a tidy finish! All about Andy Carroll though, who powers over the Everton defence at the back post to head a free-kick down into the six-yard box and defender Fabian Schar meets it on the volley to crunch it home.

It was never a foul in the first place...

Any Villa fan who says Smith is under pressure for his job is naive and feeding a narrative that doesn't exist. He's rightly being shown loyalty by the club. Give the man time and support.

  18. Postpublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Southampton 0-1 Crystal Palace

Not much of a reaction from Southampton after going a goal down. Palace have dropped deeper and look happy to just defend this lead.

  19. 'Clever from Palace'published at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Southampton 0-1 Crystal Palace

    Jon Walters
Former Burnley and Republic of Ireland midfielder on Final Score

It was a great free-kick. Palace have suckered them because Southampton had six in the wall and Luka Milivojevic was shaping to shoot. He then chipped one over for James Tomkins. Overall, Palace's gameplan is working - they aren't expansive or open and rely on set-pieces but are ahead. They'll keep it tight.

  20. Postpublished at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

    Pinball.

There's flailing arms, ricochetted shots and appeals for penalties and free-kicks all over the shop before Villa eventually clear their lines through Douglas Luiz.

Jack Grealish does well to hold it up and wins a free-kick in the process.
