Going in, it should be a draw for me but it's been a very good first half.

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

Tom Heaton has to deal with a bouncing back pass as Gerard Deulofeu puts him under pressure. All he can do is hoof it as high as he can into the stand to his left.

Villa need the whistle to go.

Time for Dean Smith to go. Can't choose the right formation or players and we are giving away stupid goals every game!

Anon (remember to put your names on texts please)

I know Smith is struggling for in-form wingers but Grealish out wide is a waste. He can't influence the game and he's Villa's best hope to make something happen.

    Southampton 0-0 Crystal Palace

Sofiane Boufal does ever so well down the left, weaving in and out of challenges and making his way into the box.

He doesn't hit it - even though the space is there - and instead opts for a lifted cross. He doesn't find a teammate.

  10. 'Villa were asking for trouble'published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 1-0 Aston Villa

    Alex Scott
    Ex-England international on Final Score

Aston Villa were trying to play out from the back but I think they were asking for trouble. Tom Heaton has palmed it back and Troy Deeney has finished it off, but I don't think you can blame him completely. I don't know what the Villa defence were doing inviting that pressure on.

  11. 'Newcastle just need a goal'published at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 0-1 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a very good game. Everton were very good in the first 25 minutes but in the last 15 minutes, Newcastle have turned the pace up and Everton can't live with them. They just need a goal.

  12. Postpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 0-1 Everton

Theo Walcott still plays like he's 17, great pace to beat two men and then a bizarre pass to, er, absolutley nobody. Another rough diamond Miguel Almiron burns away from the defence but then rashley rifles a shot wide. Slice city.

  13. Postpublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 0-1 Everton

Everton were superb in the first 10-15 minutes but it's one-way stuff now. They're hanging on for half-time and need to stiffen up that midfield.

GOAL - Watford 1-0 Aston Villapublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Troy Deeney

Ezri Konsa blasts a clearance into Troy Deeney, who had put him under pressure and it falls to Abdoulaye Doucoure.

He hits it low and hard and Tom Heaton can only palm it back into the path of Deeney, who just about squeezes it into the far corner.

    Newcastle United 0-1 Everton

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

We said that Everton's team was attacking but those attack-minded players are struggling now they are being asked to defend. Ancelotti might to have change it at half-time. Newcastle are running riot.

  16. CLOSE!published at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 0-0 Aston Villa

Ismaila Sarr, who is busy this afternoon, takes down a long ball superbly, beats the full-back in the process and slaloms into the box.

He waits and waits before pulling the trigger but it's blocks. The resulting corner then falls at Troy Deeney's feet and he tamely passes it into the keeper's hands. Big chance missed.

  17. 'Ward-Prowse key for Saints'published at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Southampton 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Jonathan Walters
Former Republic of Ireland international on Final Score

I think the only way Southampton seem to be able to open up Crystal Palace's defence is through James Ward-Prowse. His skill from free-kicks and corners is very dangerous but otherwise Palace's defence look organised.

Martin Kelly blasts it miles wide...

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Newcastle United 0-1 Everton

It's all Newcastle as Everton's midfield now looks chronically under-staffed. Tom Davies loses the ball and there's overloads everywhere, Fabian Schar carries the ball downfield and unleashes a rattler which Jordan Pickford is strong to turn over but he had two men outside him. Pass it on!

  20. Postpublished at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Watford 0-0 Aston Villa

Ismaila Sarr makes a nice run down the right and drives a dangerous ball across the face of the six-yard box.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is the target but he can't quite get there ahead of Tom Heaton .
