Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouth

More really nice play from the Albion as superman Dan Burn overlaps down the left and finds Neal Maupay - but the ball gets away from the striker.

A rare mistake from Shane Duffy opens the door at the other end but Burn is able to get back and block a shot from Harry Wilson.

Bournemouth in a sloppy mood. Junior Stanislas gifts the ball in midfield and then doesn't chase back, keeper Aaron Ramsdale reads the through ball well but then puts in a lazy clearance into danger. Switch on!

I found games more mentally draining than physically. That's where I really struggled. That's where the manager plays a big part though. It is possible but it requires a lot of support.

    I liked the big-game build-up because I hated training!

Lewis Dunk knocks a 65-yard diagonal into the feet of Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who flicks it first time to Aaron Mooy, who wins a corner.

    Absolute champagne stuff.

Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouth

Brighton and Bournemouth's lads both look fit enough at the moment as the Cherries are pressed into their own area and give the ball away cheaply. A ripple of applause rings out.

There is no welfare for players anymore, we've got really greedy. You feel like a whipped horse, just a conveyor belt of games and games.

  7. 'Definitely an argument for playing two days in a row instead'published at 12:54 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouth

    Steven Reid
Former Blackburn midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

There is an argument for playing two games in two days rather than three days. I know for me, I always felt worse on the second day of the recovery. I even had spells during my career where if we played on the Saturday, I wouldn't train till Thursday because of the way my body worked.

There are just some players who can't do two games in three days. I know that's difficult for some people to understand but there will be players out there carrying multiple injuries.

There is definitely an argument for playing two games in two days instead.

Bournemouth definitely controlling the ball in midfield more in the last five minutes but they haven't looked too dangerous. They do have Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser in reserve today.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh looks confident since his goal. Every touch since the goal has been assured. This might be his little window before the January transfer window where he starts to play a big part for Brighton before the final four or five months of the season.

Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouth

Brighton are up above Everton in that congested midfield of the Premier League table as it stands. Bournemouth are on a bad run of results and are dangerously close to the drop zone. Still loads of time to turn this one around as they have a good spell of midfield pressure now.

Neal Maupay looks a constant threat. Aaron Mooy is the one that's impressing me, he's always free to get the ball. Bournemouth look vulnerable with their two holding midfielders, Mooy is getting in between the lines, and causing them problems.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh now wins a free-kick in a dangerous area. He's causing Bournemouth all sorts of issues so far. Aaron Mooy to deliver...

    Well cleared by Jack Stacey.

Neal Maupay shoots wide again. He'll get one on target soon enough.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh, by the way, is the third player from Iran to score a Premier League goal, after Adranik Teymourian (two for Bolton Wanderers in 2007) and Ashkan Dejagah (five for Fulham from 2013 to 2014).

  17. CLOSE!published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouth

And now Bournemouth go close, this is a cracking start to the game. The Cherries flow neatly away, Joshua King is played in on goal and he tries to curl into the far corner but Mat Ryan is strong to push it out.

Brighton immediately counter and Neal Maupay fires over the bar.

There was definitely a bit of relief there. It was a great counter-attack. Bournemouth look like they are going to be vulnerable today with the formation they are playing. Alireza Jahanbakhsh will love that.

GOAL - Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 Bournemouthpublished at 12:33 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Alireza Jahanbakhsh (3 mins)

It was written! Alireza Jahanbakhsh has a Premier League goal! It's a beauty too to move him level with Ian Butterworth in the all-time stakes.

Aaron Mooy starts it with a lovely ball out down the left, Neal Maupay tees up the Iranian and he absolutely batters it into the bottom corner from about 18 yards.

Great strike, and he breaks down in tears. Full on floods. It means more.
