  2. 'We weren't good' - Gerrardpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 20 October 2019

    FT: Hearts 1-1 Rangers

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard gave his reaction to BT Sport post-match.

“I don’t think we were good today in all honesty and I’m really disappointed and frustrated with how we started," he said. "I said before the game, when you come to a place like Tynecastle you have to earn the right and compete and we didn't do that.

“We got a warning when they hit the crossbar and they've scored against us so we could have been a couple down. From conceding, I thought the reaction was good and we did well to get back in it, but over the course of the game we haven't done enough to win the game and it’s certainly two points dropped.

“Craig will be proud with his team and they deserved to take something. We got into positions down the left and the right but our crossing wasn't good enough and there was a lack of quality in the final third, so we have absolutely no complaints about the outcome."

Even though the form suggested Rangers could win two or three nil today, you just knew Hearts wouldn't roll over given the atmosphere at home.

I thought the top man today was Michael Smith, his reading of the game is superb playing at centre-back. That's his biggest attribute. I thought he was outstanding.

Hearts have ended a poor run of results against Rangers. They lost all four league matches to Steven Gerrard's side last season by an aggregate of 11-3.Not since a 0-0 draw at Ibrox over two years ago had Hearts taken a point off Rangers.

  8. 'This moves us forward' - Leveinpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 20 October 2019

    FT: Hearts 1-1 Rangers

The Hearts manager Craig Levein has been giving his thoughts on the game on Sportsound.

"It was a tough fixture for us today, we've not been in the best of form and Rangers have been flying high at the top.

"All credit to the players, the only frustration for me was losing the goal from a set-piece, which always irritates me. That was annoying but other than that I couldn't fault their efforts.

"I thought once Ryo [Meshino] scored we got a bit safe, we did defend a little bit deeper which wasn't the intention but it can sometimes happen in a game particularly when you're not full of confidence.

"I thought Uche had his best performance of the season. Michael Smith, who seems to be able to play anywhere, was excellent alongside Christophe Berra at centre-back. We'd like to have won the game, but this moves us forward".

Did the internationals catch up with the Rangers players? They looked leggy. When they got into good areas the deliveries were poor and Rangers just couldn't break down that Hearts defence at all.

There were plenty of meaty tackles and eight bookings in that 90 minutes. The best of them? Jake Mulraney's clearing out of the poor linesman. No card. Shocking.

I don't think either team can complain about the result. I thought Rangers would've carried momentum into the second half with the goal just before half-time but there was no creation of chances in the second half. No goalkeeper had much to do. It's a fair result.

  16. FULL-TIME- Hearts 1-1 Rangerspublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 20 October 2019

It was a game that promised so much in the first 45 minutes after a goal apiece, but the second period delivered little.

Ryotaro Meshino deservedly put Hearts in front after 6 minutes with a delicious lob, but just over half an hour later Alfredo Morelos grabbed his 15th goal of the season to level for Rangers.

After the break it was scrappy with few opportunities and at the end of it, Rangers miss the chance to return to the top of the Premiership. They draw level with Celtic on points, but trail them in the table.

Meanwhile, Hearts go above their rivals Hibernian on goal difference. They sit 10th.

And, Katic makes up for giving away the free-kick by defending it well.
