The sides line up in the tunnel, fit-again Aymeric Laporte receives plenty of back slaps from his team-mates as Blades skipper Billy Sharp rallies the troops.

One day they'll surely build a statue of Eddie Howe outside Bournemouth's ground, but right now his kingdom appears to be crumbling.

Saturday's 1-0 reverse at Norwich was a 10th defeat in 12. The only crumb of comfort for Bournemouth fans is that they're still only a win or two from being right back in the mix.

Three points are surely vital against Graham Potter's Albion, who are stuttering somewhat and have won just once in nine games themselves - against Bournemouth.

Brighton have never won a Premier League game in January; this seems a good chance to change that stat.

Things can change very quickly and this might be the game where the Cherries' bad run ends.

Brighton are not exactly going great either and I am a bit worried about my old team because they do not seem to be able to kill sides off.

Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce on the possible need to buy a defender: "We've been unfortunate. It's one of those ones when you say unfortunately, maybe yes, we have to.

"Of course, Matt Ritchie played there on Saturday, but he's just back after four months, so we'll have a look in that particular area as well.

"It's unfortunate because Jetro (Willems) was just settling in well and adapting to life in the Premier League. He's been a very decent player for us, so we'll miss him."

Making my way through the concourse and up the stands to the press box at Bramall Lane there is, from the snippets of conversations between Sheffield United fans I overheard, a feeling of quiet confidence that their side could get a result tonight.

It is understandable why they would feel that way. They have rarely been outplayed this season, even against the supposed bigger sides in the division.

One player who could be key to the Blades avoiding defeat tonight is Dean Henderson. The goalkeeper has been in excellent form this season and has kept the joint most clean sheets in the Premier League with eight. Another tonight against a side that has only failed to score once in the league this season will surely only boost his hopes of being in England's Euro 2020 squad.

Against Newcastle, Chelsea had 70% possession but only four shots on target. If you've got big aspirations you've got to be hitting the target and scoring goals. If you want to go to the next level, that Liverpool and Manchester City level, you can't not be scoring, hitting the target and getting the points that you need.

    Watford

Watford head coach Nigel Pearson: "I don't take anything for granted in football, and I don't buy into the thought that just because something happened a couple of weeks ago, it is going to happen again.

"They will want to reverse the last result and because we are both in a difficult situation they will be up for the fight. There is no doubt about that.

"Whenever you play sides in and around your own situation, the benefits of a win are huge and we go into the game with every intention to try and win."

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti was chatting away about striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in his pre-match press conference this week.

He's in decent form, scoring six of Everton's past nine league goals, helping the Toffees win three of their five games under Ancelotti in the Premier League.

So does he deserve an England call-up? "Of course he can play for England, no doubt," says Ancelotti.

"England has fantastic strikers. He has to fight, but he has the quality and possibility to be a great striker in England, and for England."

  18. The Ancelotti effect?published at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2020

    Everton v Newcastle (19:30 GMT)

Things have started to improve a little under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton.

They are unbeaten in their four home league games since sacking Marco Silva (W3, D1), keeping a clean sheet in the last three.

They have also lost just once in eight league matches (W4, D3) and have won three of their five top-flight games under Ancelotti.

In terms of Ancelotti's Premier League record alone - he has won 33 of his 40 home matches as a manager (D4, L3).

And he has never lost a home Premier League game against a team in the bottom half of the table (W15, D4).
