    Boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "It's good to have him back. I have the whole squad available now and I can pick the XI that fits perfect the shape and the opponent we're playing against.

    "In our job, the most important thing for everybody is to take results. That's what we're working for. If we can start fast we've shown that we are not easy to beat."

    Steve Bruce was in charge of Villa for almost two years before leaving the club in October 2018, with Dean Smith then leading the team to promotion via the Championship play-offs.

    Bruce said: “I had the privilege to manage there and you’re always disappointed with the way it ends. I thought I would have demanded more time but that wasn’t the case. It’s a great club with big tradition and history but I want to go back and beat them.

    “The difference in a couple of weeks with a couple of wins is remarkable," he added. "They’re bouncing around the place and training has been as lively as it has been. We’ve got one or two knocks but we’ve got one or two getting back so let’s hope we can keep the run going.”

    Boss Steve Bruce said: “Lejeune and Schär have trained the past two weeks so they come into the reckoning. The big one is Flo because he’s been out so long but he’s ready to go and the same goes for Fab. As long as they come through the next two or three days unscathed."

    On Ritchie, Bruce added: “It’s still ongoing. He went to see his specialist again yesterday. It’s a difficult one because he was so close a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately had a setback. It’s difficult and frustrating for him."

    “It is what it is," he said. "I think over the years we’ve got used to playing on a Monday night, Friday night, Sunday morning – whatever it is. It gives everyone a chance to get over the knocks and niggles that they’ve had.

    “Where we’ve got one or two back fit we’ve maybe lost one or two with the internationals but that’s how it is. Ciaran Clark is our biggest worry. After coming on for Ireland he’s got a knock so we’ll see how he is.”
