    Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourinho not only had praise for Tottenham's training facilities, external but also their £1bn stadium that opened in March. The first chance he gets to take his place in that fancy new dug-out is next Tuesday for Spurs' Champions League match with Olympiakos.

"The training ground is second to none. It probably can only be compared with some American Football training grounds. You cannot compare it with European football at any level, and I've been in the majority of the best places."

  2. Full housepublished at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2019

West Ham v Tottenham (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It will be a packed house at Tottenham's training ground this afternoon when Jose Mourinho makes his first appearance as manager.

Spurs have limited numbers from each media organisation and have still found themselves in the unusual position of turning down a huge number of applicants.

In good times and bad, Mourinho is box office.

And, as Chelsea and Manchester United have found out before, he is very much his own man and you can never be entirely sure what he is going to say.

Sulaimon Adelekan: Spurs have a case for and against sacking Poch. They claim to be a big team with a big stadium, consistent UCL qualification and a final to show it but did they invest enough in the team to win trophies? NO. For Poch's sack that's the cruel football world.

  10. 'Mourinho's arrival is usually a source of optimism - not this time'published at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2019

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Jose Mourinho is in unfamiliar territory as he takes charge at Tottenham Hotspur following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

Mourinho's arrival at a new club is usually a source of optimism because he invariably brings a guarantee of the silverware that has eluded Spurs since their 2008 League Cup win.

Not this time. This time he is replacing a hugely popular figure whose dismissal has angered many Tottenham fans, who then doubled down on their discontent by questioning the Portuguese's suitability to succeed Pochettino.

Here's more on whether Mourinho is the right man for Spurs

  11. 'Final defeat was beginning of the end'published at 09:13 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2019

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy made no attempt to disguise the ruthless decision that prompted the departure of Mauricio Pochettino - this was a sacking, not a parting of ways dressed up as mutual consent.

It will be seen by many as an extraordinary move, coming just months after the Argentine took Spurs to their first Champions League final, against Liverpool in Madrid.

With hindsight, Tottenham's 2-0 defeat was the beginning of the end.

Something was broken that night at the Wanda Metropolitano and it has not been the same since for the club and their now ex-manager.

  12. 'Sacking may be liberating for Pochettino'published at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2019

    Guillem Balague
    Spanish football journalist

I was convinced Mauricio Pochettino was not going to quit Tottenham but his future was not in his hands and, although I cannot understand many of the reasons behind his sacking, it has also felt like the end of the road for a while.

And, in a way, it may feel like a liberation for him and his coaching staff.

"This has shocked the football world but it is a results business," he said. "I still think the mistake was not to get rid of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, who are out of contract."

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said that "the only way is up" for Tottenham and it is a "great time to become the club's manager".

Although he thought Sheffield United's Chris Wilder and Bournemouth's Eddie Howe would be good options to succeed Pochettino, he accepted they 'wouldn't get a look in'.
