So, Hibernian prove too strong for Aberdeen, running out convincing winners at Easter Road. Motherwell leapfrog the Dons to move into third place, with a narrow victory at home to managerless Hearts.

Kilmarnock manager Angelo Alessio believes his side were still in contention for a result today but admits his side capitulated after the first goal and didn't deserve anything from the match.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, he said: "I think in the first half we were in the game. I thought we played good football. Whereas in the second half, the first goal changed the game. We were ready for set-pieces and throw ins but we conceded the goal after a free-kick.

"Then it was difficult for us to get back into the game. After the second goal, my team lacked consistency and played bad. We created opportunities to score with Eamonn Brophy and Niko Hamalainen but I think Livingston deseved this game."

Hearts caretaker manager Austin MacPhee tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we started well and were good on the counter-attack with some good early opportunities, although our decision-making could have been better. Motherwell then scored with their first shot at goal.

"The period when we're on top, we need to be more clinical. We're obviously lacking firepower up front and the squad is slightly unbalanced, we could do with another wide player.

"The boys just need to stick together. The players are lacking confidence but showed good spirit. They have been really good for me, there is a good culture within the group and whoever inherits that will have a good starting point."

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes takes responsibility for the changes he made in the second half. With Aberdeen 1-0 down, McInnes made a triple substitution, with his team going on to concede another two goals.

He told BBC Scotland: "We were good in the game first half, we counter attacked well, positionally we were good, and we were guilty of not making more of our opportunities as a counter attacking team.

"We spoke about trying to impose ourselves because we felt that Hibs can sometimes become a wee bit anxious at home. But all three goals we lose from being in possession.

"I'm maybe guilty of making too many changes looking back now. I thought the 3-4-1-2 we went to allowed us more possession of the ball and we got into good areas, but we didn't do enough with the ball and I've gambled too early with the shape because it left us more open on the counter attack."

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin tells BBC Sportsound he began to question whether it was going to be their day after hitting the woodwork three times in their 1-0 win away at Hamilton Academical.

"We’re all delighted. A hard-fought victory. It could have been a lot easier if it wasn’t for hitting the woodwork so many times. It got a bit nervy towards the end and we just didn’t manage the game well enough in the last five minutes. Thankfully we got over the line, a huge result against a team who are going to be in and around us all season."

Livingston manager Gary Holt believes his side delivered a performance worthy of maximum points.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, he said: "I certainly did enjoy that. We've had performances of late that have been really good and I've been a little bit disappointed with the way the boys have been after games but we were honest within our group to admit we never deserved to win the games. Today I think we more than deserved what we got.

"I thought from the start we were excellent. We should have been up 3-0 at half time. I firmly believe that with the chances we had. But I told the boys not to get frustrated. Kilmarnock are a very good side and love to hit you when you get frustrated. The goals, movement and finishes that we created were all excellent."

Hibernian boss Jack Ross tells BBC Scotland: "Our performance level, in the main, since I've come in has been good.

"To play well against a really good team and win in that manner was very pleasing. Having Martin Boyle back fully fit is a big plus for me.

"He was working his way back to full fitness when I came in. He brings us something different and he's a good player. He's not just quick, he's a good footballer.

"In the first half we shortened the game too much because we have got the ability to stretch and we did that in the second half. The calibre of the our goals were really good.

"Working on getting the balance right is the key aspect for us, and we're getting there. I hope they'll take belief from today. We're setting standard in training and we're setting them in games now."

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "I thought that it was a really professional performance. I've been told that our second goal was onside so, if it was, it would've killed the game off.

"When you're still at 1-0 there's always a chance [of conceding an equaliser]. They bring on big Uche Ikpeazu and go very direct, throwing every ball into the box.

A deserved win for Motherwell who did just enough to make sure they finish the afternoon third in the Premiership.

In an otherwise awful first half, a moment of magic from Jermaine Hylton made all the difference as he conjured up the chance for Christopher Long to score.

It should have been 2-0 to Motherwell in the second half, Alan Campbell tapping home but if was ruled out for offside - he looked to be just on.

Hearts simply failed to offer enough in the final third once again - the sixth away game they have failed to score.

Jake Mulraney was sent off near the end which underlined all the frustration surrounding Hearts at this time. This is a club seriously in need of fresh impetus.

It had been an even 45 minutes, but after half-time Hibernian took control and picked holes in the Aberdeen defence.

Martin Boyle twice skipped through, using his pace to great effort, to slam home a double.

Florian Kamberi beat three men in red before finishing a sublime third.

It was Hibs' first win in seven attempts against Aberdeen, and just a second win in 17 league games against the Dons.
