Have followed United since the 1960s, same issues followed Busby and Ferguson. Poor management appointments, even poorer recruitment and Ole is supposed to sort this in a year, get real, Ole needs to stay, shed the dross players and recruit quality youth and continue to rebuild. Change of manager now solves nothing.

It's OK saying give Ole time but answer me this, if he wasn't a former United player and one that is loved by the fans would he have even got the job on the first place? Quite simply no as he has no track record of any proven coaching ability. You could give a Shetland pony all the time in the world and he still won't win you the Derby!

The number is significant as it is 6,000 below capacity.

Manchester United and Manchester City have agreed to cut the away allocations on safety grounds.

If they hadn't, Old Trafford would probably be full.

The second leg isn't for ages - Wednesday 29 January if you want to mark your cards.

There's an FA Cup replay next midweek and then a full Premier League schedule the midweek after. SO MUCH FOOTBALL.

Into the last minute. Bernardo Silva is named man of the match on the TV and his goal was absolutely delightful.

69,023 are inside Old Trafford - a few jeers from the away end but that's an awful lot of people. More people than live in Hereford.

Marcus Rashford shoots from range and Claudio Bravo makes a three-course meal out of that. Almost juggled it into his own net but the ball spins out for a corner in the end...

Riyad Mahrez, who was superb at times tonight, is replaced by Phil Foden. Mahrez takes his time in coming off and Fred, who thinks United can win this tonight, tries to carry him off the field...

Solskjaer is still learning, he's still inexperienced, but what he values are in line with what Man Utd value - youth development, attacking, direct football, building a long-term team not just instant success that doesn't last. Solskjaer is FAR from the finished article, but neither was Ferguson in his early days. United fans need to be patient and accept bad days from time to time.

Manchester City ready Phil Foden as Phil Jones picks up a knock while making a tackle. The City fans in that corner enjoyed that one.

The men in blue just seeing this one over the line now.

I am not saying the next goal is critical because Manchester City have been too good for United tonight but if the hosts were to score again, they would have some hope in the second leg in three weeks' time.

    Big word, if.

Manchester United have been much better since half time, that's a plus for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But City have certainly stepped off the gas, game management as they say.

Kevin de Bruyne is able to walk to the sidelines and wants to carry on but Pep sends on Gabriel Jesus in his place. Probably wise.

Kevin de Bruyne is rolled over onto his back, I think he's going to be OK. Good job it wasn't Harry Maguire. He's onto his feet now in fact.

Ooofff! Kevin de Bruyne nicks the ball over the head of Victor Lindelof, a lovely touch and the defender absolutely whacks him with, I think, his arm or shoulder. Not intentional but that's a big impact.

    The medics run on.

Worth a reminder that there are no away goals in this tie. So as it stands, a 2-0 win for United in a few weeks' time would take us straight to penalties.

  18. Four for Rashfordpublished at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 7 January 2020

That's four Manchester derby goals for Marcus Rashford, which might not mean a lot tonight but for a lad who comes from the city and is wearing the captain's armband is still significant.

It was interesting to see Wayne Rooney chatting with Ryan Giggs straight after it.

    A penny for their thoughts.
