You can see the opportunities on the counter-attack for Everton. They are playing with a close together front three, Richarlison, Walcott, they're not really that wide, so that's a problem for Liverpool.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Adam Lallana is fouled by Richarlison and Liverpool can put another ball into the box. Dominic Calvert-Lewin just about gets his head to it to concede a corner.

Everton get it away but Seamus Coleman is pressed and pressed before he eventually smacks it against Curtis Jones to win a throw-in.

  7. CLOSE!published at 52 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Some nice, one-touch passing from Liverpool through the middle and Neco Williams suddenly finds himself in space.

He has a go from 20-25 yards out and catches it sweetly. It's straight at Jordan Pickford but the keeper has to watch it all the way as he gathers it in.

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on BBC One

Every time the ball comes into the box it's danger from a Liverpool point of view. Everton just have to beat what's in front of them but it will be weighing on their mind if they don't win today just how long it's been since they won a game against Liverpool.

  9. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Lucas Digne dives in on Harvey Elliott, who is awarded a free-kick on the right. He plays it short to Neco Williams. His touch lets him down and then his cross doesn't find a teammate in the box. Bit of a waste.

Theo Walcott tries to squeeze it through to Richarlison on the edge of the box and Everton win a corner.

It's headed on by Adam Lallana, rather poorly and Morgan Schneiderlin ends up thumping the rebound over the bar.

  13. 'We should've been more clinical'published at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Sheffield United 2-1 AFC Fylde

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder speaking to BBC Sport: "I was pretty calm apart from when they got themselves back in the game.

"It was an awkward tie for us but the attitude and the performance took care of itself. We should've been more clinical but I wasn't expecting a free-flowing game.

"The Premier League team picks itself the way the players have been playing and it's never easy to replicate that with different players but they got the win for the club so we're delighted.

"It was great for Leon [Clarke] and Callum [Robinson] to score. We created enough chances against stubborn opposition. They tried to play on the counter and they had a couple of chances to be fair.

"It was important we changed the side this week after playing the big two and a tough game at Watford but we’ll look again and give people a rest if needed."

What did you make of the first half performance from Theo Walcott? He's been a threat all game so far, whipping balls in from the right and getting in behind.

But Liverpool's youngsters have done pretty well on the face of it, especially going forward. Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are looking bright and full-back Neco Williams is a mini version of Trent Alexander-Arnold (who's only three years older!)

It's been a good game so far but Everton will be kicking themselves they are not in front as they've created some really big chances. Yes Adrian has made some good saves but they should really be one nil up by now.

Good question, Joe. Because it's a different phase of play, VAR wouldn't intervene as far as we're aware.

So it's a good job Liverpool didn't score!

This is why VAR is a nonsense. Origi scores there and it's ruled out for offside, but Pickford saves and it's a Liverpool corner? They score from the corner? Do we come back for the Origi offside from the original shot?
