    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Liverpool go straight up the other end, down that right-hand side through Harvey Elliott again. It's slipped to Adam Lallana on the edge of the box but he gets his curling effort all wrong and it's out for a goal kick.

  2. 'A game we don't need'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho to BBC Sport: "When we were losing 1-0 without strikers or the power to play inside their defensive line with lots of bodies and great soul, at that moment I had the feeling of ‘we are in trouble’.

"But then everyone reacted. I reacted. The boys reacted.

"Giovani lo Celso and Erik Lamela [who came on in the 56th minute] helped us a lot. If one team has to win, it has to be us because we had so many chances. We missed easy last balls.

"We wanted to win but we knew it would be difficult. We managed to bring the game to our stadium. It’s a game we don’t need, our squad is short with so many problems – but it’s a game at home and we have to go for it.

"We knew the way they play, long balls to the strikers. Because we have no striker I wanted to give Son and Lucas the chance to play together as a more dynamic double striker pair – different to Harry Kane. But Lamela and Lo Celso gave us more ball. We played well very in the last 20 minutes, we were just missing a second goal.

"This is just the third round and the first for us. We could be out at this moment like a few other Premier League teams. Every match is difficult. Championship teams are getting closer to the level of Premier League teams. You could confuse a Premier League team and a Championship team. I wanted more but I cannot say I’m disappointed."

The corner is headed away but only as far as Neco Williams. His first touch isn't great which means he's rushing, under pressure from Richarlison, and his effort flies past the left post.

He wants a corner, thinking it's taken a nick off the Brazlian but the ref doesn't think so.

  5. 'I would've liked to have scored more'published at 16:26 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard told BBC Sport: "These games are not easy. When they make changes it does not mean it's an easier game.

"We got our two goals and it was very comfortable but did we push on from that and create and score more goals? No, we didn't and I would've liked to have scored some more.

"I was particularly pleased for Callum [Hudson-Odoi], he has had a bad injury, is getting himself fit and getting sharper. His goal was an early settler for us. There were performances around the pitch that were good and we need that."

Pedro Chirivella does really well to evade two challenges in midfield and hold the ball up. Liverpool move it around on the left and Divock Origi pokes it through to Adam Lallana, who bursts into the box.

He doesn't go any further but Liverpool retain possession and Takumi Minamino wins a corner off Richarlison. This is good from the young Reds!

    Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi told BBC Sport: "I don't want to come on and talk about VAR. I'm so proud of the performance of my players, especially the young ones.

"Chelsea controlled the game and played at low rhythm but it was a really good experience for the young players of my team. With or without VAR the result wouldn't have been different.

"Chelsea are so so strong, so difficult [to play]. The FA Cup started and ended for us - it was not our goal, but the performance was very positive."

Everton have had two great opportunities to break the deadlock here but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Mason Holgate have not made Liverpool keeper Adrian work hard enough.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti has been gesturing furiously at his defence. Clearly very unhappy with something back there.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Derby

Derby County boss Phillip Cocu, speaking about Wayne Rooney's impact in their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace: "He influenced the game a lot because you could see his experience.

"He knows when to receive the ball and has great delivery when he gives it. The other players know he will give the pass so they will make the runs.

"A big part of the success today is the combination between him and Tom Huddlestone - it was a pleasure to watch. Overall it was an excellent team performance. We tried to take the initiative even though it was an away game."
