Was Divock Origi offside? If it had gone in, it definitely would have been one for VAR to look at.

Either way, Liverpool are starting to build a bit of pressure and there's a third corner on the right which Pedro Chirivella will take.

"I think this ball is beach ball. It’s too light. I don’t think it helps the players. But that’s not an excuse," he told BT Sport.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 42 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Harvey Elliott plays an excellent diagonal ball into Divock Origi in the box. Curtis Jones makes a good run off his right shoulder which distracts the Everton defence.

Origi ignores him, swivels quickly inside and drills a low strike towards the bottom left corner. It was going in if it wasn't for the fingertips of Jordan Pickford.

Gylfi Sigurdsson curls a corner in from the left and Yerry Mina gets his head on it. Adrian comes out, trying to punch it clear but doesn't get there and he's lucky that Mina doesn't get enough on his header which bounces dangerously wide.

Moments later, Dominic Calvert-Lewin thumps a low effort just wide of the left post.

  13. 'We knew we’d get chances'published at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Tottenham

    Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate to BBC Sport: "I’m really pleased. They gave everything they had. We were against a side who reached the European Cup final and have an unbelievable manager. So for us to go toe to toe with them, which we did at times, [was good]. I’m disappointed to come out 1-1. You never know in this game, upsets happen.

"I wanted them to press higher [in the second half] and not be so deep. That was the key. We knew we’d get chances. They haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home.

"Jose Mourinho is an incredible manager. He made changes and got the result. I can learn from him. He’s a fantastic person. The pressure is always on. I create my own pressure. We want to try to get to the next round. There’s no point competing if you don’t think you can win."

    On Ashley Fletcher's goal...

"When you have a lot of time to think, which he did, the boy delivered. He’s had a few difficult times this season. As a manager you stay with your players and you believe in them, you give them confidence. It will pass. In recent weeks he’s been really good and led the line well."

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Oooh, this was the chance for Takumi Minamino on his debut. Divock Origi curls a cross in from the left but the Japanese international doesn't get enough contact on his header, glancing wide of the right post.

Jurgen Klopp tries to nod it in on the touchline and jumps up, skips and turns in frustration.

  17. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Takumi Minamino makes a nice run in behind the defence and he's played in. Seamus Coleman does well to block his cut-back and Everton scoop it out for a throw-in.

It's taken quickly and Curtis Jones turns sharply before firing an effort wide of the left post.

  18. 'Gave Blades a run for their money'published at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Sheffield United 2-1 AFC Fylde

AFC Fylde boss Jim Bentley speaking to BBC Sport: "We have pushed a really good side today right to the end and gone toe-to-toe with them.

"We had determination and aggression and had our moments - there was a shout for a penalty and we had good chances to score.

"I'm really proud of the players, the staff and the club and we've given a big Premier League team a run for their money.

"We knew we would have a lot of time on the back foot and have to defend but one of our chances was a free header and if that goes in then it's an equaliser and the game could've been a lot different.

"Chris Wilder said well done. We had a chat before the game - we are good friends so we’ll go and have a pint together now.

"Sheffield United is a fantastic club and we wish them well in the cup and Premier League.

"We can take positives from the game and we’'ll speak to Chris about the magic formula and and how we can use that in our own league.

"Deep down we are a little bit gutted with a loss but we can take good memories from this and it's been a great day for the club and the fans who travelled."

  19. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Another Liverpool attack breaks down as Divock Origi gives the ball away sloppily. Everton immediately break and Theo Walcott gets in behind on that right-hand side again

He looks up and curls one into the middle but Dominic Calvert-Lewin is stretching as he tries to head it goalwards. He can only glance it out for a throw-in.

The Blues are edging closer... That's three or four big chances now.

  20. 'The referee was not some guy in an office 200 miles away'published at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was asked if Middlesbrough's goal should have been disallowed.

"Yeah because the Middlesbrough goal is offside. VAR would give [the offside decision]. But the game was good.

"The referee was not some guy in an office 200 miles away. We don’t have VAR. We have VR, video referees in control of the game. They’re not assisting the referee."
