This 18:16 GMT is a weird kick-off time isn't it, and not just because of the minute for mental health campaign.

It's not quite a late game, not quite the early evening game.

A lower, hungrier team is more dangerous than a higher quality team. The gills will nick this game.

    HT: Gillingham 0-0 West Ham

Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC 5 Live

West Ham have to do much better. David Moyes is striding towards that dressing room and the door might even go with a slam! That's what these managers do; go after one player, then the next to get a reaction out of them. West Ham have been laboured, lethargic. Yes it's a different type of game but some of these just aren't affecting the game at all.

The effort that Gillingham have put in and what Steve Evans has been demanding of his players on the touchline - we'll have to see if they can keep it up in the second half.

West Ham attempted more than double the number of passes than Gillingham in the first half, yet the Hammers failed to land a shot on target. Gillingham had three on target.

  13. 'I hope everyone saw we respect the competiton'published at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Liverpool 1-0 Everton

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "The plan was to line up a team with players who were absolutely excited about the opportunity to play in that game.

"It was difficult for Everton to find the right mindset - to come as a challenger and realise you are the favourite, with the team we put out.

"But all the kids played so well - I have no words for that.

"The football they played, they showed the right principles - pressing in all the right places.

"So many good performances, I couldn't be more proud.

"I hope everybody saw tonight that we respect the competition."

  14. 'We have to refocus on the Premier League'published at 19:08 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    FT: Liverpool 1-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti speaking to BBC Sport: "The frustration for me was we had a lot of opportunity and weren't able to score.

"We are disappointed but have to refocus on the Premier League. I think we could play better. We were playing on the counter attack and had some opportunities, but found it difficult to build up from the back.

"We were not able to stay in the match in the second half because they pressed strong. We have to work day-by-day to try to improve. We are out of this competition now so have the Premier League to focus on now in the next game.

"We have the opportunity to move up the table, so this is our goal."

Here's some more reaction from Anfield earlier, where a much-changed Liverpool side, fielding several youngsters, beat Everton 1-0 thanks to a screamer from teenager Curtis Jones.

I'd like to go in the dressing room at half-time and see David Moyes introduce the real David Moyes to this squad - because I think he's about to go mental at a few of these players.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Gillingham 0-0 West Ham

The half-time whistle goes. Gillingham have been excellent and are unlucky not to be ahead.

West Ham boss David Moyes will be having strong words. His side have been poor.

  18. Postpublished at 45+2 mins

West Ham play a long ball but Thomas O'Connor beats Robert Snodgrass to it and Gillingham clear.

  19. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

Three minutes added on at the first half. I'd actually expected a bit more because we had so many delays.

  20. Postpublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2020

    Gillingham 0-0 West Ham

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC 5 Live

West Ham haven't recovered from the start Gillingham made to this game. Before the game David Moyes said 'let's not get caught out straight away on the press' but since then, they haven't really had the ball back. It's been all pressure from Gillingham. You look at the mobility at the top of the pitch and West Ham need to work a little bit harder.
