Hibs break the deadlock in the Edinburgh derby in some style. Scott Allan's ball into the box is asking to be volleyed home and Martin Boyle obliges. It's a superb finish by the midfielder who guides his effort beyond the helpless Pereira.

The form can disappear with the passion of a derby game. Shapes and players form can be a factor of how a game will pan out. Hearts will fly out of the traps today, but if Hibs can contain them, they'll come through. Results wise - it means more to Hearts today.

Hibernian manager Jack Ross: "We've got a couple of enforced changes. Ryan [Porteous] is suspended and Florian Kamberi has an injury, so two which were enforced and the other one we just thought that [Vykintas] Slivka has done well for me in the main and his impact on the game on Thursday was good. I think he deserves to play today."

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:30)

Hearts boss Daniel Stendel confirms that Glenn Whelan is simply dropped from the squad today.

The German, who has lost his first three games, tells BBC Sportsound: "This is not only a game to win, it can be a game to change all meanings in this club, that we can get the turnaround in our season.

"I have only been here two weeks but I think I understand how big the club is. I want the players to understand that.

"We have some ideas on how we can win this game but what is important is the passion and mentality. We have to ruthless in the duels.

"We have changed the team a little to get some more creativity in the last third. We need positive moments in front of the goal - and this will bring confidence."

    Quote Message

Daniel Stendel's coming into a team that's lacking momentum and confidence. He doesn't know the Scottish game or players yet, but players will take any excuse to under-perform. Hopefully, that won't be the case today. I think the shape the teams choose today will be important in determining who wins.

If you're going to go with Sean Clare at right-back then you're asking for problems. If Daryl Horgan gets one-on-one with Clare then you're in for a bit of bother. I think Michael Smith will operate in that wide right berth in the back four. Sean Clare [at right-back] is like a fish up a tree...

  16. Stendel v Rosspublished at 12:06

    Hearts v Hibernian (12:30)

Jack Ross was telling the media this week that he would have never believed anyone if they had said six months ago that he and Daniel Stendel would be in opposition in the Scottish top flight.

The German finished the season with Barnsley by pipping Ross' Sunderland to promotion from England's League One, despite the Scot's side coming out top in their head-to-head fixtures - 4-2 at home and 0-0 away.

But, within months, both were sacked and today find themselves in the opposition dugouts again - this time in Edinburgh.

Heart of Midlothian v Hibernian (12:30)

The statistics make for grim festive reading for Hearts, who find themselves at the foot of the Premiership. The Jambos are three points behind Hamilton after Saturday's defeat by Accies, without a win in the latest three homes games and without a win in seven overall, losing four in a row.

Hibs, though, are themselves looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat and have lost on their latest two on the road.

Although Hearts have lost just one of their last six Edinburgh derbies, Hibs are unbeaten in their most recent two visits to Tynecastle and won 2-1 last time out in April.

However, despite their awful season, Hearts won the most recent derby - 2-1 at Easter Road in September.
