Chris Wilkinson: Jarrod Bowen - what a signing. West Ham have just guaranteed their Premier League status. It's a player of his quality and talent which will be the difference between staying up and getting relegated. He will provide spark, goals and assists.

I'm genuinely more excited about Ighalo than Fernandes. Ighalo is going to play his socks off for Utd and could be the cleverest piece of business in the whole window.

They might as well get it out of the way and hand the trophy to Liverpool before their game with Southampton, right?

Manchester City are not in action until Sunday when they are in London to face Tottenham (16:30).

It's a massive day at the bottom where two points separate 15th from 19th.

Four of the bottom six face one another - 18th-placed Bournemouth host Aston Villa, who start the day in 16th, while 17th-placed West Ham are at home to Brighton, who are 15th.

Will reaching the Carabao Cup final galvanise Villa?

  3. 'Quite a good signing'published at 11:12 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

    Rory Smith
Chief Soccer Correspondent for The New York Times

Manchester United’s transfer strategy is nuts and the club’s badly organised and it needs major restructuring to be even vaguely modern but I think Odion Ighalo’s quite a good signing as cover, on loan.

  5. 'Ighalo is cover for Rashford'published at 11:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2020

Odion Ighalo is still in China but is expected to fly to the UK in the next few days.

It is understood there was interest from other Premier League clubs but Ighalo wanted to play for United. He is United's first senior loan signing since Radamel Falcao's arrival from Monaco in 2014.

United accept Ighalo does not fit the club's policy of trying to sign long-term targets.

However, this move has been done to cover the short-term injury to Marcus Rashford and they could not go the rest of the season without bringing in a replacement.

Man Utd v Wolves (17:30 GMT)

Odion Ighalo is proof that dreams do come true.

Not only is the 30-year-old a boyhood Manchester United fan, the former Watford forward will also be the first Nigerian to appear for the club after signing from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua on loan until the end of the season.

I say crack on but this is in fact the final weekend before the inaugural Premier League winter break kicks in.

After today's matches, Manchester United and Chelsea don't play again until 17 February while others like Newcastle and Aston Villa are not back in action until 16 February.

Not to worry. There's plenty of top-flight games over the next few hours to satisfy your football fix - including six starting at 15:00 GMT.

Runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool could end the day 22 POINTS clear if results go their way.

We start at the King Power Stadium for a third versus fourth battle between Leicester and Chelsea (12:30) and finish at Old Trafford where new signing Bruno Fernandes could make his Manchester United debut against Wolves (17:30) - but not Odion Ighalo.
