Andy: We now going to have to listen to more "that will be really encouraging for West Ham", and "if they play like that every week they'll be fine" like we hear every week, but that doesn't matter when we simply keep on losing.

West Ham manager David Moyes remains without an away win against Liverpool, failing in 16 attempts (D7 L9) and losing the last four in a row with Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham.

Liverpool have earned as many points this season as Manchester United's treble winners of 1998-99 (79), and won as many league games as Arsenal's 2003-04 invincibles (26).

West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice talking to Sky Sports: "There were a lot of positives to take. A lot of people thought we were going to sit back, we scored twice and had two other good chances. Mistakes cost us, that's pretty much been the story of our season. We have given the best team in the world a game. We're gutted that we've lost.

"We kept our shape well. Tonight was about getting up the pitch. I think Liverpool were probably a little bit surprised by the chances we created. Southampton is a massive game for us, there are positives to take from the last two games.

"We've got to be men out there and hold on and we could have taken a point now. It wasn't meant to be and we've got to go again now.

"That has to be the standard going into every game. Take it from Liverpool, they're a great attacking team but they also do the defensive work too."

tonyonduli: Pundits talking up the Hammers, reality is Liverpool should have scored at least 5. Teams will score against Liverpool, but given how we’re currently playing they’ll find it difficult to beat us. Another 4 wins away from a return to the hallowed land! Come on Redmen!

West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to Sky Sports: "Pleased in a lot of aspects, we did a really good job. We're up against a really good opponent. I'm more disappointed that after getting ourselves in the position we did, that we didn't hang on to get a point. A lucky deflection goes against us and it makes it really difficult.

"I felt as if we'd done a good disciplined defensive performance at Manchester City. I felt tonight we could maybe try and go another way and see if we could get a result here, but it's not easy because Liverpool have so much ammunition.

"In the end, it wasn't good enough."

On Lukasz Fabianksi: "He's done great for us. But when you're in our position, if you make individual mistakes, you need to quickly get over them and not let it happen again.

"Our real big games start now. Liverpool wasn't a big game and Manchester City wasn't a big game. The big games are the next eight to 10 weeks and we need everyone in the best form they can be in. I believe we'll play better.

"Tonight's a positive. Since I've been with West Ham there's been a lot of positives but it's hard to show when we we don't win. They've done a really good job, the players, but it's points we want. I'd rather come in here with the points and say we were rubbish."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The start of the game, I liked a lot, we started exactly how we wanted to. We scored a goal in a situation how we expected to.

"Our second-ball game was not good early on. We didn't defend set pieces really well at all. It's normally a strength of ours. West Ham knew they had a way to stay in the game with the second balls and the set pieces. As long as the opponent thinks there's a chance it makes it difficult. We lost a little bit of patience in the first half.

"After they scored a second, we found our feet again but we knew the counter would be dangerous for us.

"I didn't feel any nerves around Anfield. I don't think anyone in the stadium thought it wasn't possible. There was only 51 minutes on the clock, that is a long time. We were a bit lucky, Mohamed Salah's goal, Lukasz Fabianski will normally save and then the Sadio Mane goal was a little bit lucky with the deflection. The best goal we scored was disallowed, that was a really nice goal."

Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "The Champions League final [against Tottenham] helped a lot to know we are able to [keep winning]. I said after, it was the worst final I played with a team but we won! We learned in that season to do the right things again and again. It's long ago. We had to work on that, consistency, staying in the game, using different situations.

"The set-pieces brought us back tonight. Getting the momemtum back again - because we had a couple after each other. You need to have different ways. There were so many things we could do better but to reach this number of games, you cannot be brilliant all the time. We just try to make the best of what we have. I am pleased with the attitude we showed. The crosses were a bit too hard from Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold but we had super situations so all OK."

On equalling Manchester City's record winning run: "I never thought it would be broken or equalled. We did it and I cannot believe it happened to be honest. I like a lot tonight that everything positive helps. When we equalised the stadium was rocking and that helps us. Whatever will happen this season is an effort of all of us. I could not be more thankful or appreciate the support we get. So far so good."

On the title: "You see City playing and this is the team in world football that are able to win all their other games. We have to keep winning. We need to be ready and it is a home game for Watford [next]. It is not about shining but the hardest work. As long as the boys are ready to work hard I am not concerned but it is still a job to do."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "I liked a lot how we started. We scored a wonderful first goal. But then we weren't good in second ball situations. We have to pick them up much more often. We struggled in this situation and that gave West Ham a good feeling.

"They could win the second ball from the goal-kicks and for us that was difficult. We lost a little bit of patience in the first half in the things we did. Offensively, you could see this a little bit.

"They scored the second goal and I have to watch back how that happened. Then we were forced to stay calm and do the right stuff.

"All the goals we scored were strange. The best goal we scored didn't count because Sadio [Mane] was offside. You have to squeeze it and that's what we did tonight to get the three points and it is so special."

Pat is right to say force the players inside but to do that you've got to make up 20-30 yards to get to the man to stop them crossing the ball first. Doing that for an hour and a half is tiring and that's when the gaps start to appear.

All you can do is show him inside, it's not difficult at all. It's your job to stop the crosses coming in. The full-backs have changed the rules because they put them in from the deep areas with such pace, they are vicious. David Beckham was a great crosser of the ball but it was the area he was doing it from. There are one or two players doing it now.

West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes on BBC Radio 5 Live: "We can take a lot of positives. Before the game nobody will have given us a great deal of hope. I thought for large periods of the game we had a chance.

"I'd hate to think my teams would do anything but put a lot of effort in and I'd be annoyed if anyone else thought otherwise. The disappointing thing is the individual mistakes. I thought tonight we did a really good job. We performed really well as a team but we go away with no points and it's the points we need.

"We wanted to be a bit more aggressive than we were against Manchester City. The games have been difficult as a coach to know the right way to go and approach the games. It's easy for people to say we have free hits but you think 'what a load of rubbish when people say that'. We've certainly got no free hits, we need to get points.

"I'm not happy with the individual mistakes and if we don't cut them out it'll cost it. You've got to take a lot of responsibility as a Premier League player. I'm not disappointed with the performance, but I'm disappointed we didn't get any points from the game."

Liverpool

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold speaking to Sky Sports: "Obviously we felt like we've dominated the game but that's football. We've let them have two or three chances, the set-piece was probably their best chance of scoring today so we've got to look at that.

"We're happy with the win, that's the main thing, but there's a lot of things we need to get right. The fans were massively with us, they were unbelievable, especially when we went behind. For us it's a massive help.

"We just tried to keep going, that's the mindset drilled into us by the manager. It paid off in the end.

"The manager gives us freedom, he understands the players' qualities and that's massive for us. We're an attacking side, we want to create chances, we want to be scoring goals and hurting opponents and the best way to do that is getting players forward and creating as many chances as possible.

"We're in a good position now but we need to keep working hard. I'd say we're confident more than anything, we believe in our own ability. I'd say the overwhelming feeling for everyone is hunger to be as successful as possible, to win every game we go into. We want to be winning everything we can be."

West Ham have won only three of their last 21 Premier League fixtures - as many as in their opening six games.

They have lost 22 points from a winning position this season. Their last league win was on New Year's Day.

West Ham needed a reaction from the performance last week. If you play for West Ham and put everything on the line then the fans will respect you. They are expecting the bare minimum of the effort. They are quite vociferous when it goes wrong, that is the difference from other clubs. There are issues off the pitch at the moment but the only way for the players to turn it around is by the performances on the pitch.

Only Cesc Fabregas and Wayne Rooney have reached 25 Premier League assists at a younger age than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

TAA has the joint most assists in the Premier League of any Reds defender, level with Stig Inge Bjornebye.

Liverpool are on a club record run of 54 successive home matches in the Premier League unbeaten (W44 D10). The last time they lost a league game at Anfield was 2-1 against Crystal Palace on 23 April 2017.
