I just want to win the Premier League - Mane

Liverpool's Sadio Mane told the BBC World Service that he never knew Premier League winners got medals - and that he doesn't care about them.

"I never knew that happened, but I don't care about medals.

"We have to keep working hard to get what we want. Our target from the beginning was to win the league, so if we win it, it will be great for the club and for the fans."

  5. 'An absolute joke'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Southampton

Southampton head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl: "I think we conceded goals that were an absolute joke. One long ball. We trained the whole week, we know what will come and cannot defend this ball. For me, simply not enough.

"If you want to take something you cannot give such simple goals. Simply not aggressive enough, not committed enough and if we play like this against a team that is in a relegation battle, then you are also very quickly back in the relegation battle, so pay attention.

"The opponent had showed that they want to fight for everything and we didn't seem to be serious enough. We are only a winning team if we defend like they did today, and that was the big difference today.

Do the players think they're safe from relegation already? "If they do, they have a problem."

It was at Vicarage Road in August 2017 that Liverpool's current front three were first unleashed; Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all scored - of course they did.

Those three have now started 69 Premier League games together, scoring 105 goals in those fixtures. The latest of those goals secured an 18th consecutive league win despite a patchy display against West Ham on Monday.

Watford desperately need a win after taking a solitary point from their last five games - but this might not be the day.

More from Chelsea boss Frank Lampard: "We expected a fight and they gave us a difficult game but we should win the game, we had a lot of possession and chances.

"The character of the team was great, it wasn't for the want of trying but we need more goals.

"Marcos Alonso has had a big week but I don't want my left-back top of the scoring charts. I want our attackers scoring goals and they haven't.

"We wanted to win, we should have won but it's a difficult league. It's that cut throat part of the season. If we keep having games like this and we are not clinical it's tough.

"The way the season has panned out, we should be pleased that we are fourth but it means nothing at this stage. If we manage to get in the top four the achievement is huge but we are a long way from that yet."

  8. Sarr to help inspire Watford revival?published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

The sun has just dipped below the top of the Graham Taylor Stand and the air quickly dropped cold as a result. Lots of gloves on show as the players go through their warm ups.

The away fans, on the right of the picture below, are in good voice already but the Watford fans are also in good spirits too. Recent form may not have been great but the performances haven't been too bad and the return of Ismaila Sarr from injury is certainly a boost.

The Hornets have certainly been heavily reliant on Troy Deeney and when he scores Watford usually win. He has scored five goals under Nigel Pearson and only one of those have come in games the home side has not gone on to win.

Pearson has challenged his side to help take the load off Deeney and score more goals across the team. The return of Sarr can only boost their chances of doing just that.

  9. 'The game never got in to any rhythm'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    FT Newcastle 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "I think overall was below par performance from us, I’m being critical of our own performance, but 11 clean sheets, speaks for itself. It wasn’t a great game by any means from any side they have only lost here three times this season at home, so to get a point was a good point.

"The game never got in to any rhythm we have to dig a little if you aren’t finding the right way you have to try and find another way, but I’m pleased we got something from the game.

"They forced it a bit more in the second half and on set pieces and for both sides there was no quality by all means from either side in the whole game in what was a tight game."

  10. 'We should score more goals...'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth 2-2 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard: "We should win, we had many chances. We had a bad 10-minute spell where they scored and that I don't like. I'm pleased with the character to get a draw but we should win the game.

"Against Bayern we conceded twice in a short space of time, it's not the first time. Could it be a lack of concentration? Possibly from the players.

"People talk about the defence but if you are 1-0 up and leave teams in the game than one set piece can change the game. We should score more goals and then we don't have that problem."

    Final Score at Vitality Stadium

Most of Bournemouth’s players were on their knees at the full-time whistle; indicative of their endeavours, but also how close they were to a huge three points.

But Chelsea dominated that game for large parts. Their weaknesses were at the start of both halves. They got away with it in the first half, but not in the second.

It’s another reminder for Frank Lampard that the quality of his defence isn’t close to where he’d like it to be.

  12. 'We need to get points'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth 2-2 Chelsea

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe to Sky Sports: "It's a glass half full day, we were 1-0 down and it's hard to come back against these types of teams. We showed great spriit, we just couldn't carry on great starts to both halves.

"We were too deep after the first 20 minutes but I was very pleased with the response.

"I had no idea from my angle if Josh King was onside or not, you just hope and pray as we were well on top at that point.

"We need to get points. We have lost some narrow games so hopefully this is a turning point."

  13. Hornets to give Liverpool a bit of trouble?published at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

Watford's bounce - or improvement in results - when Nigel Pearson first took charge is well and truly over now. They have only taken two points from their past five league games.

The Hornets have given Jurgen Klopp's side a bit of trouble at Vicarage Road in the past couple of seasons and I would back them to score on Saturday - but, the way Liverpool are, you still have to think they will win.

Bournemouth forward Joshua King to BBC Sport: "We started very well but then they got into the game, we didn't press well enough and sat back too much. You are going to get problems if you do that.

"They got two lucky ricochets but we need to do better there. We were more aggressive in the second half, got ahead but we knew they would come back. It was a fair point in the end.

"I'm still learning playing out wide, I do a job for a team but I want to be in the box and scoring goals."

  15. 'We are not safe until the points are on the board'published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    FT Newcastle 0-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley defender James Tarkowski: "We have got away from that group near the bottom and we had moments today where we played OK. We played well in defence and another clean sheet for the boys is great.

"We are not safe until the points are on the board and we are now thinking about chasing the teams above us instead of looking behind, but today we have done a good job to get a good point away from home. As a team we defend from the front and to come away from home and grab a point is a great result."

Eddierocksteady: Chelsea fast running out of gas - big mistake not signing adequate back-up in January. At this rate, they'll be playing Arsenal back into the race for the top four - & that's before we mention Man Utd, Wolves & Sheffield Utd directly behind them.

Simon Atkins: Villa having a dreadful day, and they're not even playing. Bournemouth 1 point, West Ham 3 points. Watford couldn't get something as well, could they?

  17. 'It's not good enough'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    FT: West Ham 3-1 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton goalscorer Michael Obafemi: "They're a good team, but at the end of the day it's not good enough. We'll go again.

"It was good to get the goal but in the end it didn't mean anything. The boys just have to come together again tomorrow. We had a good run, we'll try to pick it back up again and hopefully we do."

  18. 'We can fight with anyone in this league'published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    Bournemouth 2-2 Chelsea

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth forward Joshua King: "It's a fair point for both teams. We let ourselves down by missing a few chances after a good start and Jorginho was getting time on the ball.

"Second half was much better, the manager wasn't happy at half-time and wanted us higher. We did that, got on Jorginho and were on the front foot.

"The VAR decisions hurt us a lot last week and today we played well against a great team. We can fight with anyone in this league.

"It's not over until it's over."

  19. 'That's the way it went in my dreams!'published at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

    FT: West Ham 3-1 Southampton

    West Ham United

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen: "I think that's the way it went in my dreams last night! We held on and got the three points which is really important.

"The assistant manager said the keeper liked to go down quickly. I knew the angle was tight so I got enough on it to dink it over him. I thought it might be offside - I joked with my dad last night about what if I scored and it was ruled out!

"Hard work is a given. I'll always put 110% in. I think against Liverpool we performed well, the work rate was there, but when you're at home you want to try and get three points and build on it. Now we've got two good performances, now we want to build on that."
