  1. Clarke, restoration manpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

From Stamford Bridge with Jose Mourinho to reviving Kilmarnock and now Scotland.

Steve Clarke has succeeded where 10 national bosses failed before him and taken his side to end 23 years of suffering.

A tale told here in rhyme...

Which brings us to a sore point that we can get out of the way early. Scotland have never progressed beyond the first round in either of their two previous Euro appearances or their eight World Cups.

It’s great to be at the party once more but, with two of our group games in Glasgow, an improving side, a canny manager and only eight nations eliminated at the first hurdle, surely this is a golden chance to break that record.

  3. Bucking the oddspublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

So, the odds on getting through have greatly increased since the competition expanded to 24 teams in 2016, but there are only two nations ranked lower than Scotland at the tournament; Finland and North Macedonia.

  4. England off to a winning startpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

Of course, Group D is already up and running with England seeing off Croatia 1-0 at a sweltering Wembley yesterday.

Those two, ranked four and 14 in the world, are big favourites to progress, but remember, of the 24 nations taking part, 16 teams go through since the four best third-placed sides also make it.

Whisper it, England looked pretty good...

Twenty-three years of hurt followed by national euphoria encapsulated in song.

Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro have recorded a special version of their 2007 song, Now I'm Everyone, for BBC Sport.

There are three players in Steve Clarke's squad that were not born when Scotland were last at a major finals; Nathan Patterson, Billy Gilmour and David Turnbull.

Most of the others will have no memory of Scotland playing at France '98.

  8. Here we go...published at 12:01 British Summer Time 14 June 2021

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

It’s been a long time coming and now we’re nearly there. Yes, Scotland are back on the big stage, lining up in a major competition after a 23-year hiatus.

The Czech Republic are the opponents at Hampden Park as Scotland prepare to get started in the delayed Euro 2020 finals.

The first game at a tournament is always important but there’s just that bit more on the line with this one since it looks like our best chance of victory against a team ranked just five places above us. Of course, the Czech Republic will be thinking exactly the same thing.

Stay with us for the team news and the build-up to kick-off at 14:00 BST. We’ll have the action covered on TV, radio and online.
