For all the pre-tournament hype, this French team are basically defend deep and hump the ball to Mbappe. Very disappointing. At least Germany can point to the lack of real quality as their excuse.

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Assistant manager of RB Leipzig, Moritz Volz, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "France had Mbappe occupying two players to create space for others and Germany did not have that.

"Serge Gnabry was mainly in the centre of attack, I did not agree with him coming off and Kai Havertz did not look at his best. There were a lot of sloppy touches.

"Germany had chances to score but there has to be more movement and quicker movement off the ball."

France just got over the line. They got a bit of luck when they needed it. I was expecting more from them but they will say, 'who cares'.

Germany played some attractive football but it was so slow and lethargic at times. There was not enough potency or movement from their forwards.

That's awful, just awful from Kevin Volland.

So much time and space down the left edge of the box but the Germany striker plonks his attempted pass out for a throw-in.

This is a poor Germany side.

They are on their heels and just need to gamble when the ball goes in the box.
