Austria try to go more direct. It's launched forwards for Konrad Laimer to chase down the right.

I don't think David Alaba is being utilised right here. You need to get him more involved in the game.

I know they were criticised for playing him too far out wide previously, but at centre-half? I don't think so.

Stefan de Vrij tries to find Wout Weghorst but it's a sloppy pass.

Christoph Baumgartner is then blocked off by Stefan de Vrij as Austria come down the left again.

Austria are just starting to get in behind a little bit more...

Matthijs de Ligt reads another throughball and makes a decent challenge.

Christoph Baumgartner cuts inside off the left and has a pop. It deflects off Matthijs de Ligt and rolls into Maarten Stekelenburg's arms.

What Daley Blind is doing here is what I think David Alaba should be doing for Austria. He's too restricted centrally, he's too good for them to play him that way. That Austria midfield is getting massively overrun, it needs help, it needs Alaba to come out and get involved and give them some possession, get them up the pitch. The Netherlands are just enjoying themselves in there.

So as it stands, the Netherlands are heading into the knockout stages thanks to this penalty from Memphis Depay.

Memphis Depay is played in down the right from a simple throw-in which bounces without contest.

He smashes it early and it hits the sidenetting but it isn't too far away...

Frenkie de Jong goes past a few players before he's eventually brought down by Aleksandar Dragovic.

Patrick van Aanholt then gives away a free-kick near the touchline.

Memphis Depay's cross is nodded away by David Alaba. It's poked back in by Marten de Roon but Alaba is there again.

Since his Netherlands debut, Memphis Depay has scored 27 goals for his country, five more than any other Dutch player (Gini Wijnaldum, 22).

Patrick van Aanholt lifts it into the box from the left this time but he can't pick out Wout Weghorst.

They're looking good Netherlands, started the game really well, riding the energy that's around the arena. Good in the press, winning the ball high up the pitch.

Austria need to be careful with the number of players that Netherlands get forward.

Denzel Dumfries goes on another run and wins a throw-in near the corner.

He's been excellent, again.

It's really good stuff from the Netherlands off the ball. The backline are well organised and Georginio Wijnaldum is pressing from the front.

Marcel Sabitzer ends up floating a pass straight out for a goalkick after Austria's options become limited.

It's going to be a big ask for Austria now. They just got caught on the ball a few times in the lead up to the penalty.

You can press as much as you like, but you have to take care of the ball when you do have it.

Since Frank de Boer's first game in charge, only Romelu Lukaku for Belgium (10) has more international goals for a European nation than Memphis Depay has for the Netherlands (8).

Depay has been involved in 49 goals in 66 appearances for the Netherlands (27 goals, 22 assists).

It's reckless from David Alaba, he has to get there, stand up and assess the situation but he goes flying in.

It was his mistake, he will try to rally the troops and keep them positive but what a confident penalty - it was always going in the net. The game was already fast and frantic but it's going to get better now.
