Did you see the reaction when Chiellini when Spinazzola stopped Lukaku's effort from going in at the far post? You could see how much it means to them, how much effort they put into their defending.

From the first day Italy have had a presence and knocked at the door to signal to everybody that we are ready here to win the European Championship.

It means a lot to them. They got together under the guidance of Roberto Mancini the leadership of Chiellini and Bonucci from the back. Donnarumma very young keeper still but so experienced already.

Up front with Insigne and especially Chiesa they were constantly a danger and they scored two beautiful goals. They deserve it.

It was a magnificent game of football, end to end. The Italians had to use all of their know-how and experience in that last 10 or 15 minutes.

The two old guys at the back were brilliant. It was a big talking point whether Lukaku was going to get in behind them and whether they were going to get done for pace.

But they stood firm with everything that the Belgians threw at them in the last 10 or 15 minutes. They were magnificent.

Spectacular scenes. Devastating to see Roberto Martinez like this because he put so much time and effort into getting a result today but you have to applaud the Italians.

I was split before the game who I wanted to win but Italy thoroughly deserved it.

I questioned before this game if Italy would be able to continue their unbeaten run, with Belgium their biggest test of that.

What a fool I was to even doubt them.

They are now 32 matches without defeat.

Not a lot been said by the Belgium coaching staff. Roberto Martinez looks a bit broken.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo is now strutting around in his pants. It's OK, we're past the watershed.

You'd call this an Italian job.

At the end though this was a different Italy team to the one we saw earlier in the tournament. The old guard stepped up. It's all about getting the job done and they did it tonight.

What a game. Just magnificent.

It has not always been the case, but this is a very likably Italy team. They still have the grit, but they've married it to some serious guile.

What now for Belgium, though? Does this golden generation have made more opportunities to fulfil their undoubted promise?
