  1. 'There are no cliques in this England squad'published at 18:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you look at the England squad over the last three or four years, there are that you look back and say where's Dele Alli gone? Where's Jesse Lingard gone? Southgate has looked at all the players and what gets you in the squad is form.

He likes leaders, he likes people who speak their mind in the right way. When you lose your form you're out of the squad very quickly as it's shown. He's done a great job. There's no cliques in that squad. They all mingle very well.

  2. 'Denmark deserve respect'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

Former Germany head coach on BBC One

Denmark deserve a lot of respect because after what they have done after the incident with Christian Eriksen is unbelievable. It is a fairytale.

    They deserve every compliment.

  3. One change & no Calvert-Lewin on benchpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    England v Denmark (20:00 BST)

So, it's just the one change for England as they look to make history and reach the European Championship final for the first time.

Arsenal's exciting 19-year-old winger Bukayo Saka comes in for Jadon Sancho, who drops to the bench.

There is no Ben White, Ben Chilwell or Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the bench.

England XI: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Phillips, Mount, Saka, Sterling, Kane.

Unsurprisingly, Denmark are unchanged from the side that started the quart-final victory over Czech Republic last Saturday.

Boss Kasper Hjulmand had stated after that match that fatigue was a concern but he goes with the same XI again.

The Danes are captained by defender Simon Kjaer.

Denmark XI: Schmeichel, Christensen, Kjaer, Vestergaard, Stryger Larsen, Hojbjerg, Delaney, Maehle, Braithwaite, Dolberg, Damsgaard.

Kasper Hjulmand is basically the Danish Gareth Southgate.

Cool, calm and collected, very little fazes him and he has united a nation with this vibrant Denmark side.

I managed to have a chat with him last Sunday and put it to him that in England we often get carried away by success, so how does he keep his players' feet on the ground?

"No problem with this group, we don’t get carried away," he said. "That is the best part of being from Denmark, we want to have success, we want to win but we know where we are from. And to be humble.

"We remember our families, where we grew up and these players and don’t get carried away. That is a not an issue for me to keep their feet on the ground and they are where they should be. They are hungry and ready to compete."

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand is out with his players at Wembley and he looks in very relaxed mood. He is beaming broadly and has just gone over to applaud the Danish fans inside Wembley - and there are plenty of them - and he received a huge ovation.

Denmark have arrived at Wembley now too, a handsome bunch they are.

All high cheekbones and chiselled jaws.

They look very relaxed, you know. Joking around with each other and having a laugh.

  9. 'England players are adapting perfectly'published at 18:34 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    England v Denmark (20:00 BST)

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Through qualifying they played four at the back - Denmark are very flexible, it is about that tactical edge. The first few minutes will be cagey trying to suss each other out but Luke Shaw plays in a three and Bukayo Saka can go to wing-back, they can match them up either way but it all depends how the game plays out to begin with they will have to judge.

That's what I love about Gareth Southgate now, whether it's a four or five or a three at the back, all the players are adapting perfectly.

England boss Gareth Southgate has challenged his England players to make history by beating Denmark in front of 60,000 fans at Wembley tonight and reach the Euros final.

"We don't have as good a football history as we like to believe sometimes," said Southgate. "These players are making massive strides.

"We've broken down barriers in this tournament and we have another opportunity to do that.

"We have never been to a European Championship final so we can be the first England team to do that which is really exciting."

The roads and walkways around Wembley are already packed with England fans with colourful and boisterous Denmark supporters are also making their presence felt. Red flares have been let off and the atmosphere in and around the stadium is thunderous.

And the first supporters are now filing into a sunlit Wembley having gone through security and the usual Covid-19 protocols.

Everything about this feels like a special night.

    England v Denmark (20:00 BST)

    Jurgen Klinsmann
Former Germany head coach on BBC One

The risk for England in my opinion is that everything is too perfect already. Everything matches, they are in synch, they are playing well.

They bring in whoever they want to bring in and they are doing well. Everything looks perfect.

The question is, if Denmark all of a sudden score a goal, how do you react then?

Spain had a few issues getting to Wembley yesterday when they got stuck in a traffic en route to the stadium.

No such problems for England today, I've just seen their team coach arrive at the ground with a police escort.

The nerves will start jangling once they step inside.

I always end up tearing down the wallchart in a fit of mournful resentment when England exit. Feeling optimistic that this will be the first time (in my lifetime) it stays up for the duration.

It comes down to this then, the second semi-final of the European Championship.

Italy are already there after edging past Spain on Tuesday night, but who will join them?

Denmark have history, lifting the trophy in 1992, while England a nation that are looking to put 55 years of hurt behind them.

Is destiny written for the Danes and team-mate Christian Eriksen or will it finally come home for the Three Lions?
