Such a refreshing attitude from a Premier League team - still with relegation concerns - to take the FA Cup seriously.
The Magpies, remarkably, have not been beyond this stage - round four - since 2005-06.
Bruce reached the 2014 final with Hull and says that changed his attitude.
Team news on the way.

Wes Morgan's thumping shoulder barge is fine, says the ref. Hamza Choudhury then wants in on the action but he gives away a foul.
Hull City v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)
Chelsea
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard: "We respect the FA Cup. I do, the players do and this club has been fortunate enough to win it a fair few times in the modern era so we want to win it again.
"People will argue whether top four is more important than the FA Cup but I don't think we need to get into that one. We're professionals so we want to win the game and get through to the next round."
West Ham v West Brom (15:00 GMT)
West Ham United
Manager David Moyes on West Ham's injury problems: "I think we've seen it at all the clubs and I think it's always this time of the year. That's made it difficult. We can't afford to lose too many more - but let's hope we get them back quickly.
"I think we've not had lots of fixtures like other clubs - we're not in Europe. I don't see why we should feel we're too hard-pushed. We're pushed because of numbers, because of injuries, but we can play Wednesday and Saturday."

A nice ball is played over to the left to Josh Dasilva, who is in space for Brentford. He steadies himself and shoots/crosses it powerfully across the face of the goal.
There's nobody there to get on the end of it but it looked more of a shot anyway. Lashed at it a bit.
Southampton v Tottenham (15:00 GMT)
Southampton
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl: "When you see the trophy, I think everybody wants to get their hands on it. It's a short way to go there, a few games, and it's a big chance to get a trophy and this is everything that's interesting for the weekend.
"We took a few fantastic results but we know that if we stop doing what made us strong then we will immediately be a team that is not really competitive.
"All the rainy days we had before the sun came out helped us to enjoy the moment but to remember how quick it can change, this is a good message."
Brentford 0-1 Leicester
Bit of a waste. The corner is overcooked and Hamza Choudhury makes sure Dominic Thompson can't get there.
Leicester win the ball back but the ball through to Ayoze Perez will go all the way through to the keeper.

He's quite comfortable on the ball, Dru Yearwood - I'm suggesting he's not the quickest player I've seen in my life but he rolls people, gets free-kicks, he's a realy nice player to watch.

Joel Valencia makes a decent run down the right and Brentford win a corner off it. Decent start to the second half.

Brentford 0-1 Leicester
Brentford defender Pontus Jansson, who is not in the squad today, speaking to BBC at half time: "It's never good to concede an early goal as we did but we are still in the game. It's always how you go out to prepare and stay in the game so it's a tough start. But it's only 1-0.
"You take it game by game and respect all the teams as a tough game. We have to do the same and hopefully we'll be good here.
"Right now, it is better for us to look at the front two [in the league] and hunt them down rather than look behind us. We are in a good position."

10yearbusinessplan: You can’t beat the nostalgia of the FA cup on a cold Saturday afternoon
Woody: Great to see a full house at Brentford, even though 2 teams aren’t at full strength and an early kickoff
The Brentford team selection is a disgrace. The idea that their first team players can't play at Saturday lunchtime then again on Tuesday evening is ridiculous. They deserve to get battered!
