A few other games to mention before kick-off:

Milwall have moved up to seventh since Gary Rowett took charge, and he leads the Lions back to one of his former clubs looking for a third win in a row. The south Londoners make the trip to Stoke City, who are just a point above the bottom three despite two wins in three.

Wigan have a chance to move out of the relegation zone when they host Bristol City, who have lost five of their past six games, dropping out of the play-off places and down to 11th in the process.

Barnsley, in 23rd, welcome 20th-placed Huddersfield. The Tykes are three without a win but have the chance to drag the Terriers back into trouble.

Bottom club Luton are winless in six, yet welcome a Birmingham side who have also taken just one point from a possible 18.

Blackburn and Preston are both four league games without a win, and will be looking to revive their respective play-off bids when they clash at Ewood Park.

  12. Robins without Doyle as Alex visitpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    League Two preview

    Matt Taylor

The big game in the fourth tier sees leaders Swindon Town host third-placed Crewe Alexandra at the County Ground.

The Robins are three points clear of second-placed Exeter, whose boss Matt Taylor was named League Two Manager of the Month on Friday, and six ahead of Crewe - who have two games in hand.

But Swindon will have to cope without 23-goal striker Eoin Doyle for the rest of the season, after the Irishman was recalled from his loan spell at the County Ground by parent club Bradford.

Taylor's Grecians play Cambridge United for the fourth time this season, having lost 4-0 to the U's in the league and needed a replay to knock the U's out of the FA Cup.

At the bottom Morecambe and Stevenage, who are level on 18 points, both have home games in their fight to avoid the relegation place.

But the Shrimps have lost their last two league games, and Boro are without a win in nine.

    All 12 games kick-off at 15:00 GMT.

    • Carlisle United v Plymouth Argyle
    • Cheltenham Town v Walsall
    • Crawley Town v Bradford City
    • Exeter City v Cambridge United

  13. Resurgent Boro welcome Rooney's Ramspublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Middlesbrough v Derby (15:00 GMT)

    Wayne RooneyImage source, Rex Features

It really was a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for Middlesbrough and their manager Jonathan Woodgate.

The Teessiders won all four games over the festive period, moving 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Boro then held Premier League side Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend.

Derby County pulled off their own upset, winning at Crystal Palace last Sunday, to register three straight wins in all competitions.

With former Man United and England striker Wayne Rooney now firmly ensconced with the Rams, head coach Phillip Cocu will be hoping his side can move up the table and mount a push for the play-offs.

An away win would be a boost for Derby, who haven't won a Championship game on the road since the opening weekend of the season.

This one may be 16th against 17th, but if either side can take three points, the top six won't be too far out of reach.

  14. Tigers hope to prey on Fulhampublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Hull v Fulham (15:00 GMT)

Hull City are one of five clubs who begin the weekend within touching distance of the play-offs.

The Tigers have won three of their past four in the Championship and if Grant McCann can hold on to top scorer Jarrod Bowen this month, then the Humberside outfit will be confident of a sustained bid for the top six.

Fulham were among the pre-season favourites for automatic promotion but haven't quite lived up to expectations.

The Whites remain in the play-off places but will be anxiously looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack - with just a two-point cushion to seventh place before kick-off.

The west Londoners are without a win in their past three away games, and will need to improve that form to stay in contention.

Maybe the joint top-scorer in the league - Aleksandar Mitrovic - will have a say by adding to his 18 goals at the KCOM...

  15. Chairboys look to correct mini-slumppublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    League One preview

League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers have endured a sticky period over Christmas and the New Year, going four games without a win.

The Chairboys travel to Sunderland, who are unbeaten in five games and are now a point off the play-offs.

Second-placed Rotherham are three points off the top but have a tricky assignment at fourth-placed Oxford United.

Ipswich Town have gone right off the boil, slipping to fifth, and will be aiming to record their first win in 13 games in all competitions when they host Accrington.

Southend, yet to win in their 10 league outings under Sol Campbell, have a big game as they welcome Tranmere Rovers, who are a place above them in the table - but 12 points ahead of the Shrimpers.

Blackpool, without a win in six in all competitions, get a bit of extra time on the training ground as they sit out the action following the demise of Bury.

All the games kick off at 15:00 GMT.

    • Bristol Rovers v Doncaster Rovers
    • Burton Albion v Fleetwood Town
    • Coventry City v MK Dons
    • Ipswich Town v Accrington Stanley

  16. In-form Royals host in-form Forestpublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

Reading v Nottm Forest (15:00 GMT)

    Ovie EjariaImage source, Rex Features

Two of the form teams in the Championship meet at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading may have raised a few eyebrows when Mark Bowen swapped the director of football role for the office of manager, yet the move has paid off.

The Royals have rattled off four straight league wins in a six-match unbeaten run to move up the table to 14th, putting them six points off the top six.

Yet visitors Nottingham Forest have had a good run too - winning three consecutive league games to go fourth - and the Tricky Trees have a game in hand on all of their rivals, too.

These two teams meet twice in the space of 11 days after October's scheduled meeting at the City Ground was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

This simmer will mark 21 years since Forest have been out of the top flight, and results this month could prove crucial to Sabri Lamouchi's hopes of ending that exile.

  17. Charlton rebuilding as Baggies visit - againpublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

Charlton v West Brom (15:00 GMT)

    Charlie AustinImage source, Rex Features

It's a case of deja vu for these two sides, who met at The Valley six days ago in the third round of the FA Cup, when Kenneth Zohore's strike gave West Brom passage to the last 32.

Charlton play their first home league match since their takeover by East Street Investments was confirmed.

New Addicks chairman Matt Southall says he wants to concentrate on strengthening the club's squad in the transfer window before sorting out a new deal with boss Lee Bowyer.

The south-east Londoners have endured an injury crisis which has promoted a tough spell, with just one win in their past 14 Championship games.

The promotion-hunting Baggies have been replaced at the top of the table by Leeds United following a four-match winless run over Christmas and the New Year.

However, second-placed Albion have still lost only two of their 26 league games in 2019-20.

  18. Leeds look to regain swaggerpublished at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

Leeds v Sheffield Wednesday (15:00 GMT)

    Patrick BamfordImage source, Rex Features

Leeds United started 2020 on top of the Championship and are on course to end their 16-year exile from the Premier League.

The Whites have a six-point gap to third place, although that would go back up to nine with victory here, despite winning just one of their past five league games.

Those three points came in a bonkers 5-4 victory at Birmingham, which Marcelo Bielsa's side followed up with a 1-1 draw at second-placed West Brom.

Leeds impressed in their 1-0 defeat at Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Monday, but the visit of Sheffield Wednesday will prove a different challenge in what will be a febrile Yorkshire derby.

However, the Owls have lost their past three league games - slipping out of the play-off places and down to eighth in the process.
