    Brentford 0-0 QPR

QPR pop a ball into the box from a free-kick wide on the right, but Ebere Eze's delivery is headed away.

There are a few committed challenges going in, including one from R's right-back Todd Kane on Mathias Jensen just now.

You'd expect that from a derby, mind.

    Brentford 0-0 QPR

It's a poor delivery from the set piece and QPR initially clear.

The ball comes back towards the edge of the area, but an offside flag allows the visitors the chance to clear their lines.

  3. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Brentford 0-0 QPR

Brentford are back at it and Ollie Watkins sends a shot narrowly wide from close range.

It took a deflection, and the hosts have the first corner of the game.

    Brentford 0-0 QPR

Massive appeal for a penalty from the Bees and the home fans!

A long ball forward finds Ollie Watkins, who controls well and gets into the area.

A tangle of legs with Geoff Cameron, and the forward goes down.

Referee John Brooks says there is nothing doing... but QPR can breathe a sigh of relief.

You've seen them given, and on first glance it looked a penalty.

    Brentford 0-0 QPR

It's a breezy day in west London, with Brentford currently having the wind on their backs as they attack the Ealing Road terrace, which is packed with home fans.

R's midfielder Luke Amos leaves a bit on Josh Dasilva from a duel, giving the Bees a free-kick just inside the visitors' half, but nothing comes from it.

  7. Postpublished at 1 min

    Brentford 0-0 QPR

Bees keeper David Raya races to the edge of his area to gather a through ball from Nahki Wells which was looking for the run of Bright Osayi-Samuel.

That one was simple for Raya, although the run was being covered by Brentford left-back Rico Henry.

QPR manager Mark Waburton returns once more to his former club this lunchtime.

After a spell as Brentford's sporting director the 57-year-old spent 18 months as manager, guiding the Bees to promotion from League One in the second half of 2013-14 and then securing a fifth-placed finish in the Championship the following season.

Warburton has already been back to Griffin Park once, when he was in charge of Nottingham Forest, guiding the Tricky Trees to a 4-3 win.

There is a bit less love lost between Brentford and QPR, but Bees boss Thomas Frank thinks Warburton deserves credit for his spell in TW8.

"You can't underestimate how much he gave to this club," the Dane told BBC Radio London.

"He got us promoted and put in the first foundations in for the offensive way we are playing today."

This one could be a goalfest.

QPR have scored 11 times in their last two outings, asserting their dominance over Welsh teams by beating Cardiff 6-1 on New Year's Day and then smashing five past Swansea in the FA Cup.

The R's are the second-highest scorers in the Championship, but also have the third-worst defensive record in the division.

Brentford are not far behind their west London rivals in the scoring charts, having smashed seven past a hapless Luton side at the end of November.

But the Bees can keep it tight at the back too - with their 20 goals conceded making theirs the meanest defence in the second tier.

Brentford ran out 3-1 winners in the reverse fixture at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium back in October.

With Brentford and QPR in action in the FA Cup third round last weekend, both sides revert to line-ups resembling their previous Championship outings on 1 January.

Brentford pretty much switch back to the side which won 4-0 at 10-man Bristol City. The one change sees Henrik Dalsgaard replace Mads Roerslev at right-back.

Brentford XI: Raya, Dalsgaard, Jansson (capt), Pinnock, Henry, Norgaard, Jensen, Dasilva, Mbeumo, Benrahma, Watkins.

Substitutes: Daniels (GK), Jeanvier, Thompson, Mokotjo, Zamburek, Valencia, Marcondes.

QPR make two changes from their 6-1 win at home against Cardiff. Left-back Lee Wallace and centre-back Toni Leistner drop out, with Ryan Manning and Todd Kane coming into the defence..

QPR XI: Lumley, Kane, Cameron, Hall (capt), Manning, Amos, Ball, Osayi-Samuel, Chair, Eze, Wells.

Substitutes: Kelly (GK), Wallace, Masterson, Scowen, Pugh, Shodipo, Hugill.

    How it stands

Here's how the top of the Championship looks ahead of kick-off.

Brentford occupy third place, having won four of their past six league games.

The Bees could steal a march on the rest of the clubs in the play-off places if they beat Queens Park Rangers - potentially closing the gap to the automatic promotion places to six points.

Rangers start the day down in 15th, but are just six point off the top six themselves.

The Championship is back after a hiatus for the FA Cup third round last weekend, and we have a derby to kick off today's action.

Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion are slugging it out at the top of the division, but their closest challengers heading into 2020 are Brentford.

The Bees have won their past six home games in all competitions and welcome west London rivals Queens Park Rangers to Griffin Park this lunchtime.

Kick-off is 15 minutes away and we'll have the team news and previews on the way shortly, before building up to the rest of this afternoon's English Football League programme.
