  1. Dumbarton defending brilliantlypublished at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Aberdeen 0-0 Dumbarton

Aberdeen are playing some terrific stuff, but Dumbarton's defending has been just as good.

Dons midfield pair Funso Ojo and Dylan McGeouch look like they've been playing together all season. Connor McLennan is looking to take his chance in the starting line-up, while Niall McGinn's constant deliveries towards the two-prong attack of Sam Cosgrove and Bruce Anderson is keeping Dumbarton constantly occupied.

Yet, Sons goalkeeper Conor Brennan hasn't had much to do with his defence doing all the dog work in front of him.

  18. McInnes in talks with Saints over Kennedypublished at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Aberdeen v Dumbarton (15:00)

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland that the club have spoken to St Johnstone about signing Matty Kennedy in January. The winger - left out of Saints' squad to face Morton today - has already signed a pre-contract to join Aberdeen in summer.

He tells BBC Scotland: "There's been a couple of conversations with St Johnstone. We've had enough encouragement to maybe do something. If there's a way of getting Matty here we'll do it, if not we'll wait until summer.

"He's a good player, we're delighted to get him, but he's not our player yet."

On this afternoon's game with Dumbarton, McInnes is delighted to name new signing Dylan McGeouch in the starting line-up.

"There'll be a shock somewhere in the cup this weekend and we've got to make sure it's not here," he said.

"Dylan McGeouch is a good bit away from where he wants to be in terms of fitness having not had the game time at Sunderland. But he's fitted in brilliantly and he's excited to be starting."

  20. McGeouch debut as McInnes makes five changespublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Aberdeen v Dumbarton (15:00)

Dylan McGeouch makes his competitive Aberdeen debut, after being given 45 minutes in a friendly in Dubai on Monday.

He is one of five changes from Aberdeen's draw with Hearts at Tynecastle before the winter break.

They are without Lewis Ferguson who is suspended. However, 20-goal hitman Sam Cosgrove is back in the team after serving his own suspension, and he leads a two-pronged attack with Bruce Anderson looking to score in consecutive Pittodrie appearances.

For the visitors, midfielder Callum Wilson makes his debut after joining the League One side following his release by Partick Thistle.
