  2. Robinson: 'Long can go to any level he wants'published at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    FT: Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson speaking to BBC Scotland: "This is a difficult place to come. I think ourselves and Hibs had the hardest ties in the round. Our first half performance was good. The first 20 minutes of the second half they had a good spell. They had a couple of half chances that didn't really trouble us. I thought it was a professional performance and we're through to the next round.

"Chris Long can go to any level he wants to. He's got a lot of ability, a lot of pace. Tonight he looked like he really believed in himself. He's a great finisher and a great asset we have, and I'm very keen to keep him."

  3. Griffiths 'far from finished' at Celticpublished at 21:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    FT: Partick Thistle 1-2 Celtic

Earlier in the evening, Celtic edged out Partick Thistle at Firhill to get their Scottish Cup defence off to a winning start.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths was in defiant mood after making a scoring return to the starting line-up in the 2-1 win at Partick Thistle.

The 29-year-old, on his first start since 12 December, netted the opener to end his five-month wait for a goal.

"My time at Celtic is far from finished, believe me," Griffiths tells Premier Sports.

"Today I've shown I can still score goals and play well. It's been a long time coming.

"I've just had to bide my time, keep working hard in training and when I get my chance I need to play well and score goals."

Dundee were better after half-time, but over the 90 minutes Motherwell were still worthy of their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

  5. 'We can go all the way' - Longpublished at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    FT: Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

Hat-trick hero Christopher Long tells BBC Scotland Motherwell can go all the way and lift the trophy for the first time since 1991.

After the 3-0 win over Dundee, he said: "Of course we can [win the cup]. We’ve got a great squad here, an unbelievable manager.

"The first 10 mins of the second half we weren’t up to scratch at all. But the important thing was we're in the next round of the cup."

    Quote Message

It's a great way for Motherwell to come out of the winter break. I don't think it would've been a shock if Motherwell hadn't won because Dundee do have good players and it's a tough place to come. Allan Campbell is the team's unsung hero. He's a very good player and a mainstay of the team.

  7. Well deservedpublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    FT: Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

It wasn't pretty in the second half for Motherwell, but over the piece it's hard to argue against Stephen Robinson's side being deservedly in the fifth round draw.

They were not without their luck. The first goal took a heavy deflection, the third a horrific blunder from Dundee Jack Hamilton. In the middle, only a coat of paint on the Motherwell crossbar denied Dundee a route back into the game.

However, in Christopher Long Motherwell should be confident they have a striker who can show Devante Cole's loss will not be a dent to the Fir Park side's cup hopes.

  8. 'Motherwell more accomplished'published at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    FT: Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

    Quote Message

Motherwell deserve the victory, they've been the more accomplished side. James McPake will be happy with the second-half performance, there are elements to be positive about. But at the end of the day it's a home game in a cup tie.

Chirstopher Long showing his greedy side, and fair enough.

The hat-trick hero sprints down the right, turning his man inside out. With Mikael Njoli and Allan Campbell in the middle, Long blasts a shot across goal that flashes wide.

  12. 'Goal takes all the energy out Dundee'published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

That goal just deflates you. Dundee came out with real desire and played some good football, creating chances. Up to that moment they're almost back into the game and then your goalkeeper chucks one in. It's a completely different game altogether, and it takes all that energy out of you.

  13. Stick a fork in Dundee, they're donepublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

Unsurprisingly, Dundee have gone to bits since that goal. And who could blame them?

Motherwell are content to ping the ball about, with the hosts chasing shadows. The only noise you can hear is the sound of the large travelling support twisting and shouting behind the goal.

  14. 'It's a real howler'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-3 Motherwell

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Jack Hamilton won't want to see that one again. Chris Long strikes it well enough and Hamilton did have it, but somehow it's squirmed into the net. It's a real howler and a real blow for Dundee. He's gifted one to the visitors.

  15. goal

GOAL - MOTHERWELLpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Christopher Long

    And that's the hat-trick!

From nowhere Christopher Long spins 25 yards out and shoots for goal. It's the only sniff he's had all half. It's barely that. But, somehow, Jack Hamilton manages to fumble what should have been a comfortable save, bundling himself and the ball into the back of the net.

    That, really, should be that.

  16. 'Big gaps in Motherwell defence'published at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's another chance and it's a good effort, but he hasn't caught it quite as neatly as he would've liked. Motherwell's defensive organisation in the second-half from midfield to the back has been really poor. There's big gaps back there.

  17. CLOSE!published at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

Curse of the live texter almost stirikes.

Former Motherwell forward Danny Johnson is on the park less than a minute before he charges at goal and rockets a shot an inch or so wide of the near post. What an introduction that would have been.

  18. Motherwell steadying the shippublished at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Dundee 0-2 Motherwell

Glimpses that Motherwell may, just may, be coming back into this. We've had a corner. a wee bit of pressure, and some rampant running down the left from Jake Carroll. Liam Donnelly has also been introduced for Liam Polworth to steady the ship in midfield.
