Daniel Stevanato: Re Alphonse 20:26: There's an even simpler solution. Watford could always have, you know, not chucked away a three-goal lead at home to a team fighting relegation to the fourth tier. It's their own fault they've ended up with a replay in the first place.

    HT: Tranmere 1-0 Watford

This is the goal that separates the two sides at the break. Emmanuel Monthe scoring, just as he did in the original tie.

  3. 'Not used to playing on pitches like this'published at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2020

It's one of those games for Tranmere where you come in at half-time and say just keeping doing what you're doing, keep putting them under pressure, because they don't like it at all.

Often when you play Premier League teams, they are not used to the ball over the top, not used to it being spun in behind - they're definitely not used to playing on pitches like this. This is a different type of football tonight and Tranmere are playing it extremely well.

Kerron Cross: Watford reserves/u23s losing to Tranmere. Fortunately we’ve all the experience on the bench to come on. Dahlberg, Daley, Balogun, Wise, Hinds, Bennetts and Janjeva. Oh, right. Yeah. Thanks FA schedulers.

Will Rees: I'm a Man United fan and I want Tranmere to cause an upset tonight.

Be careful what you wish for Will. This surface is making any attempt at football extremely difficult and it'll be the same on Sunday. Imagine the pressure Solskjaer would be under if United go out to Tranmere!

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2020

    Tranmere 1-0 Watford

That corner is also wasted and that is the last meaningful action of the first half and it's the League One side who hold the lead at the break.

Blackett-Taylor dances into the box, gets the ball on to his left foot, but Watford's Christian Kabasele sends it behind for a Tranmere corner.

That comes to nothing, but they have another chance...

Tranmere's Peter Clarke is looking in a bit of pain after being caught late by Andre Gray.

If it stays this way, it'll be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United who will be trying their luck in the Prenton Park sand and mud on Sunday.

If Tranmere can go in at the break one nil up - even two - then Micky Mellon will be very happy.

Nigel Pearson has to say something to Watford his players; they haven't been good enough. They haven't created anywhere near the opportunities that they should be and Andre Gray hasn't really touched the ball.

Watford really haven't brought anything tonight. Joao Pedro has made a couple of good runs but they haven't really troubled Tranmere and Mellon will be delighted.

I'm sure the Tranmere fans will delighted as well with the way that they've played so far.

Alphonse Rawlinson: I know everyone likes a story, but it's not an upset if Tranmere beats Watford's under 17s. This was utterly avoidable by the FA who had time to move the fixture to a different ground before the first attempt of the replay.

    Tranmere 1-0 Watford

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

It's all about keeping the ball alive in the box and it's exactly what Tranmere do. They don't let Watford have a clear kick of the ball, a clear head of the ball. Peter Clarke does exceptionally well, he gets a little flick on, Watford panic and it's a brilliant finish by Monthe.

  12. goal

GOAL - Tranmere 1-0 Watfordpublished at 36 mins

    Emmanuel Monthe

Corey Blackett-Taylor's corner is met by Peter Clarke with a flick-on, and it falls to Emmanuel Monthe, who lashes it into the net, with the ball bouncing in off the post.

Monthe scored in the 3-3 draw earlier this month and he's done it again.

    Tranmere 0-0 Watford

Neil Danns, another veteran in the Tranmere team at the age of 37, tries to roll back the years that saw him play in the Premier League with Blackburn and Birmingham.

He catches it on the volley. Throw-in.

  14. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Tranmere 0-0 Watford

Tranmere have a free-kick just outside the penalty area but make a mess of it and it ends up with them shooting well wide.

Brilliant from Liam Ridehalgh. He just swings a left-footed cross into the middle and Watford can't deal with it, they weren't alive to the situation. It was great play on the back post by Kieron Morris, he gets his strike away and it's a good save by Daniel Bachmann. Corey Blackett-Taylor should do better with it.

  16. GOOD SAVE!published at 29 mins

    Tranmere 0-0 Watford

That should be 1-0 to the League One side. A ball from the left finds its way to Kieron Morris, whose shot is parried by Daniel Bachmann but only into the path of Corey Blackett-Taylor.

He has the goal at his mercy, but can only shoot, when off balance, over the bar.

I keep saying it but Morgan Ferrier has been the star performer for Tranmere so far. Again the ball goes up front, he wins the battle and he's on the right side of the play.

Bayli Spencer-Adams will definitely know he's been in a game at half-time. He'll be saying to Nigel Pearson that he needs a bit more protection.

  18. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Tranmere 0-0 Watford

This is an impressive opening from Tranmere centre-forward Morgan Ferrier. His hold-up play is providing a good outlet for the hosts and his power is going to let the Watford defence know they're in a game.

You can see the problems in the box caused by the pitch. The ball is bobbling into the area and players are lashing at the ball, they're not too sure how it's going to bounce into them. It's not the greatest of penalty areas but then again, the whole pitch isn't looking fantastic.
