  3. More attacking threat requiredpublished at 13:26

    HT St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

    Martin Dowden
    BBC Sport Scotland

For all of Aberdeen’s possession and set piece opportunities they’ve failed to really test the St Mirren goal. They did have a strong claim for a penalty though when Sam Cosgrove was clearly held but nothing was given.

Aberdeen nearly paid the price when Dylan McGeouch had a horror moment passing straight to Obika who was so unlucky to see his shot crash off the inside of the post.

The problem for Jim Goodwin is they are struggling to make inroads to Joe Lewis’ goal so chances like that have to be taken.

Overall, there’s a lack of quality in the final third from both sides. Aberdeen will feel they should be ahead but they could just as easily be behind.

  4. Dons lacking quality to break down Buddiespublished at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January 2020

You can see what Jim Goodwin has been drilling his players with on the training field, but Aberdeen just haven't had the quality to break them down

  7. HALF-TIME St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeenpublished at 13:16

The visitors will cut frustrated figures in the dressing room at the break. After a nervy opening five minutes, the Dons have been in command without breaking the deadlock.

They've lacked a cutting edge in front of goal and could have paid the price on the stroke of half-time when Jonathan Obika saw his effort come back off the post.

  8. CLOSE!published at 43 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

Another St Mirren chance. This time Conor McCarthy heads straight into the arms of Joe Lewis, with more than a hint of offside.

  9. 'Let-off for Aberdeen'published at 13:13

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

What a let-off for Aberdeen. Obika is so unlucky to see it come off the post. It would've been against the run of play, but it's a big, big chance for St Mirren

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 40 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

What a chance! Out of the blue, St Mirren are gifted the best chance of the game. Dylan McGeouch plays a blind pass back to keeper Joe Lewis but striker Jonathan Obika latches onto it.

He steadies himself before arrowing a shot beyond the outstretched Lewis but watches in horror as it bounces off the post and Scott McKenna lashes it to safety.

  11. Dons lack cutting edgepublished at 38 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen have forced countless corners in a frustrating first half but the St Mirren defence have repelled the danger time and again.

Sam Cosgrove has looked dangerous for the visitors but has been largely starved of service.

The Buddies are struggling to create anything of note...

  12. Big callpublished at 13:07

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove protests to referee Don Robertson for a penalty. Did you think it was?

  13. Dominate Dons unable to make breakthroughpublished at 13:05

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

St Mirren are well organised, but the chances have been there for Aberdeen and they haven't been able to take them. They are well on top but you need that breakthrough

  14. Safe pair of hands/feetpublished at 32 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

St Mirren keeper Vaclav Hladky atones for his earlier horror show with the ball at his feet [see entry at 13 mins], this time playing a crisp pass out wide to nullify Niall McGinn's high-octane pressing game.

  15. CLOSE!published at 30 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

The Aberdeen wave of pressure shows no sign of easing. Scott McKenna sees his deflected effort whistle narrowly over the bar for a corner.

From the set piece, St Mirren clear their lines but the one-way traffic will concern the Buddies.

  16. 'A lot of tussling' at penalty appealpublished at 13:00

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at the Simple Digital Arena

    Quote Message

There was a lot of tussling between the two players, but it started just outside the box so if it was given it would've been a free kick

  17. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 27 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen want a penalty as Sam Cosgrove takes a tumble under the close attention of Conor McCarthy but referee Don Robertson, with a vigorous shake of the head, says no penalty.

  18. Goalless in Paisleypublished at 25 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen have spurned a number of chances and it remains goalless as we hit the 25-minute mark. St Mirren's defence have survived to this stage but manager Jim Goodwin will be frustrated by how easily his side are coughing up possession.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 24 mins

    St Mirren 0-0 Aberdeen

We have the first booking of the game as St Mirren midfielder Cammy MacPherson is shown the yellow card for late, sliding challenge on Lewis Ferguson.
