More from Phil Neville: "A win against Spain in our final match would give us six points and I think six points at the SheBelieves Cup would be a fantastic return. It would show we are competitive at this level and that's the challenge over the next few days."

Ellen White speaking to BBC Four: "We changed the squad a little bit but I thought the players who started the game and finished the game did a brilliant job.

"We wanted to put in a positive performance after the USA defeat and I thought we played with grit and determination.

"I'm delighted to contribute any way I can for England. I love this stadium, I love playing here in the USA and we are delighted to have built up this momentum going into the Spain game.

On her injury problems: "I feel like I'm over the injuries. When I came back against Germany I felt a lot better.

"I love playing for England. It's always a dream for me to play for my country and contribute any way I can. I'm delighted to get on the scoresheet but first and foremost it's about a clean sheet and a win for us."

Beth England and Ellen White are at different stages of their careers, so to compare them would be wrong, but to play them together would be fantastic.

We changed personnel rather than a formation change, possibly we could have played two up front to give England a different outlook.

It was more like player for exactly the same player.

Phil Neville on England's missed chances: "The frustration was that is was a 4-0 game. By half-time we should have been 3-0 up. We weren't and the longer the game went on I thought we might get frustrated and allow them to get back into it. But our control and patience was brilliant and I'm proud of their performances."

England's next game comes against Spain on Wednesday, their final game of the SheBelieves Cup.

More from Phil Neville: "We feel there is a real spirit building within the camp. A real togetherness comes from winning. Winning is the most important thing about top-level sport, so the happiness within the squad and the togetherness really pleased me, as well as being relentless to go right to the very end."

    England

England manager Phil Neville speaking to BBC Four: "I thought Beth England was fantastic in the first half. In the second she tired a bit but could have had a goal herself.

"What has been disrespectful over the last days has been the lack of respect shown to Ellen White, for what she has achieved over the last eight months. She is one of the best strikers in the world. I think she has set the bar really high for everybody else to challenge her."

It's interesting that Phil Neville had a little pop at someone there. Not sure exactly who he was referring to.

Ellen White was the star at the World Cup last year but many have suggested Bethany England should have started more of England's recent games, following her fine form for Chelsea.

White showed what she can do again today.

That goal is why Ellen White has to start in an England team. For me she has to start in international football.

I wasn't blown away but there were spells of football from England I was really pleased with. Some of the attacking pay in the first half excited me, seeing some of the young players come in and take their league form into international duty. And when we did see some of the tried and trusted players come on in the second half, ultimately it was that clinical finish that edged it for England.

After a long-term injury it is going to take time for Jordan Nobbs to get back to the levels she was at. But I thought it was an excellent performance today and good to have her back.
