The UK government is considering banning sporting fixtures amid the coronavirus outbreak - but it will not happen immediately.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK will move to the "delay" phase of its plan to tackle the virus.

There have been 596 confirmed cases across the UK.

"We are considering banning major public events like sporting fixtures," said Johnson.

"The scientific advice is this has little effect on the spread - but it does place a burden on other public services."

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he will "understand" if the season is cut short because of coronavirus.

The Austrian government has limited those who can attend tonight's game to 500 people.

"It's up to the experts to decide," Solskjaer said.

"I would understand yes, under the circumstances [if the season was to be cut short].

"The main concern must be the health of the general public and the decision that will be made we'll back."
