  2. 'Like groundhog day' - Robertsonpublished at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2020

FT: Dundee Utd 2-1 Inverness CT

Inverness CT manager John Robertson was critical of his side for being "too nice" and not "clinical or ruthless enough".

He tells BBC Sportsound: "We understood the gravity of the result - we knew what three points would mean for us.

"It's like groundhog day - that's three games against United where we are on top then concede a goal. We need to mark Shankland in the box, it's as simple as that. That's why United will win the league - they're more clinical than us and everyone else.

"We're too nice, not in a physical way, I'm talking about having to have an arrogance to be a top player. We react to things, we don't anticipate. It's difficult to criticise effort and honesty, but to be a top player, you need to have that extra quality, desire, and that bit more know-how.

"Are we a good side? Yes. Do we play good football? Yes. But we've dropped too many points in games we should have taken things from.

"We've got masses still to play for. We should, in my eyes, pretty clear in second place. This is the frustration - we've dropped too many silly points and haven't been clinical and ruthless enough."

FT: Dundee Utd 2-1 Inverness CT

United’s next game comes away to Dunfermline, and talking to BBC Sportsound manager Robbie Neilson hinted he is looking at a striker playing at East End Park: “We need to concentrate on the next game, we’ve got Dunfermline next Saturday which is a tough one.

“Stevie [Crawford] has put together a good squad and they’ve got a good striker down there that we’ve been looking at recently.”

  4. 'Tonight was a big statement' - Neilsonpublished at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2020

FT: Dundee Utd 2-1 Inverness CT

Robbie Neilson tells BBC Sportsound post-game: “It was a tough night and conditions were difficult. I think both teams handled it well. Tonight was a big statement for us as it was the team sitting behind us in the league.

When asked about top scorer Lawrence Shankland who scored his 29th goal of the season tonight, Neilson replied: “I’m not going to say anything about him now, there’s too many people sniffing about.

“He’s got real quality. His link play at times was fantastic then he shows real quality, most people would hit that early but he takes an extra touch to shift it and bang it in the corner.”

How soon can United win title? The record - set by Hearts in 2014/15 - was on 22 March, with 78 points after 29 games. Robbie Neilson was in charge of the Tynecastle club that season and his current team have five games before that date and need just 13 points to make it official...

Lawrence Shankland did great to get his goal but it's sometimes the unsung heroes who deserve the praise - Liam Smith's energy was brilliant all night - up and down the pitch. Some really quality passes and crosses

  9. 'We showed how much it meant'published at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2020

FT: Dundee Utd 2-1 Inverness CT

Dundee United right-back - and BBC Scotland man of the match - Liam Smith: "Conditions made it hard. The pitch was soggy and difficult but we dug in and showed how much the game meant to us. It was a big step tonight, and we knew that, but the closer we get the better."

  10. Wonder goal by Ewenspublished at 21:07 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2020

    Celtic Women 1-1 Glasgow City

In the opening match of the SWPL1 season, Sarah Ewens' long-range dipping strike will surely be in the top 10 goals of the campaign come the end of November. Stung by falling behind to Clare Shine's close-range, suspiciously offside goal for City, Fran Alonso's side are swept up the park by the wind and rain and Ewens cuts inside from the left wing and unleashes an outrageous strike from 30 yards. Lee Alexander had no chance at all in City's goal.

It was a pretty even affair - United were comfortable after the second goal, but Inverness never gave up and had long spells on top. They will maybe feel they should have got a point out of it

Dundee United showed a lot of character - a tough game in tough conditions. Inverness were the better team for long periods, but three points down to Lawrence Shankland again - from just a half-chance. Wonderful finishing

It was end-to-end stuff. Inverness could have got something out of it but Robbie Neilson will be absolutely delighted - back to winning ways. It's a certainty they'll win the Championship - and the Premiership has missed them. They deserve to be in the top tier.

  14. FULL-TIME Dundee United 2-1 Inverness CTpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2020

Is this the night the Scottish Championship title race is effectively over?

Dundee Utd are now 21 points clear of second place Inverness after tonight's 2-1 win as Lawrence Shankland's 29th goal of the season secured the three points on a grim night at Tannadice.

Jordan White's diving header cancelled out Louis Appere's cultured finish in the first half, but a lovely goal from Shankland means that United increase their lead at the Championship summit.
