  1. 'Key mistakes cost us' - Gerrardpublished at 22:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2020

    FT: Rangers 1-3 Bayer Leverkusen

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was proud of his team's shape and the manner in which they attacked Bayer Leverkusen, but admits key mistakes cost them.

Speaking to BT Sport, he said: "I think with the way the game panned out we had a good shape about us in the first half but I wanted to see us a bit more on the front foot. A bit more aggressive. We gave them a bit too much respect within our shape.

"Obviously the penalty is a blow. It is a penalty because VAR is there but normally if there isn't VAR and you can maybe get away with that one. In the second half we did much better. We were a bit more aggressive, we were a bit more front foot and we got our rewards from that. Their second finish is class. We've defended our box twice really well but it drops to their player and he scored a fantastic goal."

"At 2-1 you think you could stick in but I was extremely disappointed in the third. [Matt] Polster has gone to ground and he has to take the man down and take the yellow card for the team. If he doesn't he has to run all the way back. He actually gets back and does well but you have to be better in the one-v-one."

The Old Firm is another game Rangers are going to have to pick themselves up from - Celtic are going to Ibrox in a much better frame of mind, rested, fresh. It's going to take a real managerial team talk to bring them together and getting something out of his squad to put in a performance.

The real question is, does any of this matter? With football around the world being suspended all the time, we'll need to await Uefa's verdict on Tuesday.

But with players now having to self-isolate, can we really expect the Champions League and Europa League to be played to their conclusion?

  5. 'To get my hand away is impossible' - Edmundsonpublished at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2020

    FT: Rangers 1-3 Bayer Leverkusen

George Edmundson, who scored Rangers' goal tonight, believes the penalty decision awarded against him for Leverkusen's opener was harsh.

"My hand was raised but I was only a foot away from it - I think to get my hand away from it is impossible," he tells BT Sport.

"Everybody is going to make mistakes, you had to just keep going. I felt as if [with the goal] I redeemed myself."

For a man of Alfredo Morelos' ability, a couple of the chances he had tonight were not difficult. I don't know where his mind is at but it must be a huge source of frustration for Steven Gerrard.

If you're going to beat top teams, you have to take momentum and confidence into it, and your top players have to be in good form. Rangers didn't have any of that.

That's a first European defeat at home for Rangers under Steven Gerrard. They hadn't lost at Ibrox in 17 games on the continent, stretching back to 2011.

    Some achievement.

  11. FULL-TIME- Rangers 1-3 Bayer Leverkusenpublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2020

A gallant effort by Rangers, but ultimately the class of the German side has told here.

George Edmundson had restored hope for Steven Gerrard's side after Kai Havertz's penalty and Charles Aranguiz's fine finish had Leverkusen 2-0 up.

But then Leon Bailey's curling effort restored their two-goal cushion. It will take a monumental effort to turn this around now.

The work around the box was brilliant, then the pace of the pass to Leon Bailey was crucial - Matt Polster had to over-commit which allowed Bailey to whip it into the top corner

Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby picks up a glass bottle from the Ibrox turf. The club could find themselves in a bit of trouble for that.

    Maybe not.

A sumptuous finish by the Leverkusen substitute Leon Bailey. Nice work by Moussa Diaby to find him at the back post.

Leverkusen are not as comfortable as what they were for almost two-thirds of the game. Rangers certainly look like they're up for having a go for the final few minutes - you wouldn't have seen this at half time, Leverkusen looked comfortable
