Celtic "should be champions" if the Scottish Premiership season cannot be completed, says manager Neil Lennon.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster confirmed on Friday said it was "neither realistic nor possible" to continue amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Lennon - whose side are 13 points clear at the top of the league - described the situation as a "nightmare".

"If it was to stop now I would doubt very much that they would say it was null and void," he added.

"It could be death by a thousand cuts. We have played over 30 games, that's well over two thirds of the season so we should be declared champions.

The Six-day cycling event in Manchester will not take place.

It had been due to begin today and run until Sunday.

  8. Postponement became the only viable option, says WRUpublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

The Welsh Rugby Union says "a postponement became the only viable option" for their Six Nations game against Scotland on Saturday.

The match had been due to go ahead before the announcement in the last few minutes.

"Whilst medical advice remains consistent, we have decided that it is in the best interests of supporters, players and staff to fall in line with recent measures taken across the UK and global sports industries," a statement said.

"The WRU would like to thank all parties for their counsel on the subject and will make further announcements with respect to rescheduling the fixture in the coming days.

"Every effort has been made to stage this game and we appreciate that individuals will have been inconvenienced. Given the fluid and unprecedented nature of this issue, a postponement became the only viable option."

  12. 'There is a determination to complete the season'published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Dan Roan
    BBC Sports editor

A reminder of the details our sport editor Dan Roan brought us earlier after the Premier League cancelled all matches until 3 April.

This action goes against the government’s highly controversial advice to continue staging sports events despite mass gatherings being closed or cancelled across the world.

But, DCMS officials are known to be supportive of the decision football authorities have taken given the need to protect employees, and the mounting cases of players contracting the virus.

The problem is that the outbreak is expected to be at its peak in May and June so if the suspension keeps on being extended, some clubs may start to push for the season to be declared void, a nightmare scenario for clubs like Liverpool and Leeds Utd, who both stand on the brink of long-awaited glory.

But as it stands, there seems to be a determination to complete the season if at all possible.

  13. Put your health first - Klopppublished at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp: "Yes, I am the manager of this team and club and therefore carry a leadership responsibility with regards to our future on the pitch.

"But I think in the present moment, with so many people around our city, the region, the country and the world facing anxiety and uncertainty, it would be entirely wrong to speak about anything other than advising people to follow expert advice and look after themselves and each other.

"The message from the team to our supporters is only about your well-being. Put your health first. Don’t take any risk. Think about the vulnerable in our society and act where possible with compassion for them."

  14. 'No contest' between football and good of society - Klopppublished at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Liverpool

Statement from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "I don’t think this is a moment where the thoughts of a football manager should be important, but I understand for our supporters they will want to hear from the team and I will front that.

"First and foremost, all of us have to do whatever we can to protect one another. In society I mean. This should be the case all the time in life, but in this moment I think it matters more than ever.

"I’ve said before that football always seems the most important of the least important things. Today, football and football matches really aren’t important at all.

"Of course, we don’t want to play in front of an empty stadium and we don’t want games or competitions suspended, but if doing so helps one individual stay healthy - just one - we do it no questions asked.

"If it’s a choice between football and the good of the wider society, it’s no contest. Really, it isn’t."
