  3. Simon Stone Q&A - What will happen with TV deals?published at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

What will happen to TV deals?

The big unknown is how the broadcasters react to this situation.

BBC, BT, Premier Sports and Sky pay huge amounts of money to screen football.

The latter three use football to drive their subscriptions. If there is no football, what happens to the subscription numbers and then, their ability to pay the contracts.

As with so many things, the length of time this shut down goes on for will determine what happens next.

  7. Simon Stone Q&A - Alternatives for MOTDpublished at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

@alex_coe - Rather than cancel Match Of The Day over the coming weeks, can we have re-runs of some of the best MOTDs from previous seasons instead? Might as well make the most of a bad situation.

What a great idea. What would your preference be? I am going for 5 Feb 2011. Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal, Wigan 4-3 Blackburn, Everton 5-3 Blackpool. The people responsible for what goes on BBC1 will decide that.

  11. All football in Wales suspendedpublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

The Football Association of Wales [FAW] has suspended domestic football at all levels in Wales until at least 4 April due to coronavirus.

The FAW say they intend to resume the football schedule, but that will depend upon "medical advice and conditions".

"We are fully aware of the impact this will have on the domestic game but the health and safety of all fans, players, volunteers and stakeholders are of paramount importance," the FAW said.

    The situation will be monitored.

  12. Simon Stone Q&A - Three options if season is not completedpublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

@united11111 - If the season isn’t completed what happens about Promotion and Relegation????

You would basically have three options. Declare the season void – and restart next season with the same teams that started this one in the same division, or have promotion and relegation, either using this season’s positions as they currently are or having play-offs. All of these scenarios are controversial, which is why the preference is to finish the current campaign – it’s just that no-one knows when that will be.

  13. Liverpool fan group backs Premier League suspensionpublished at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Liverpool

Liverpool fan group Spirit of Shankly has welcomed the decision to call off the Premier League for the next few weeks.

The Reds are top of the Premier League, on the brink of a first league title for 30 years.

"The most important consideration at this stage of the spread of Coronavirus is the health of players, officials, staff and supporters of all football clubs," the group said in a statement.

"In the weeks ahead it is likely difficult decisions will need to made about how this season's football competitions are to be concluded. As supporters – the most important stakeholder group in the game – we hope to be fully involved in any dialogue and decision making with the football authorities on these matters.

"We also recognise there will be serious financial impact on some football clubs from the lower leagues, and support an approach across football to prioritise helping them."

  14. La Manga cricket warm-ups offpublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

There will be no trips to the Spanish La Manga resort for the pre-season cricket games of Glamorgan v Gloucestershire and Hampshire v Warwickshire later this month...

  15. Simon Stone Q&Apublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

@dariopol - The situation is unlikely to improve dramatically until the summer, late May or June. Given that there are still nine or 10 rounds in the top leagues in the UK is a play-off scenario a possibility? What would that even look like? Liverpool play Man City for the PL?

I can see how it could happen, purely because, as you say, there are nine games to be played, plus three FA Cup rounds, plus Europe. Given a clear window, you are looking at about six weeks to complete the calendar, with midweek games.

  16. Wales friendly against Austria cancelledpublished at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020
    Breaking

Wales have confirmed their friendly against Austria scheduled for 27 March at the Liberty Stadium has been cancelled.

  17. Simon Stone Q&Apublished at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

@MattSturgeon3 - Won't lower leagues have to be suspended due to risk of attracting larger crowds from other clubs?

It is a fair point. I suspect it falls into the ‘cross the bridge when it comes’ category. I can’t see why a local side that attracts 100 fans should be stopped from playing. Junior matches will still go on also. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. It would be illogical to say ‘no-one can play football’.

  18. netball

Currently no plans to cancel, postpone or change Superleague fixturespublished at 12:19 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Denise Evans
    BBC Sport netball lead

The Netball Superleague has released a statement confirming it is sticking to government guidlines, and following Prime Minister Boris Johnson's instruction all sporting events take place as normal for now" and is "aware sporting events could be banned in the future."

They also stress that the "the welfare of players, staff and supporters is of paramount importance."

Superleague games have been seeing record crowds attending games so far this season and any postponement, cancellation or playing games behind closed doors would have a significant impact on the league's revenue.

But considering all games are played indoors, the risks to welfare of players, staff and fans, appear to far outweigh any other implications.

  19. Simon Stone Q&A - 'I don't see matches being played until after virus peak'published at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

@FouadHu56592647 - If the Coronavirus lasts for the next six months, then does that mean no football whatsoever will be played in that period?

It is possible, yes. In theory, matches could be played this weekend. It is the clubs who have made the decision today – the government said yesterday matches could continue for now. No-one, certainly not me, knows how long the current situation will last for. I don’t see matches being played until the coronavirus problem has passed its peak point, which the medical experts said yesterday could be between 10 and 14 weeks.

  20. Sale v Harlequins to go aheadpublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

"We will continue to work closely with government on a schedule for the remainder of the season, should the guidance on sporting events change," a statement said."We will keep updating our plans with new information as it is released, and ensure our clubs and fans are updated with developments as soon as they happen."
