To answer my own question, the Well keeper mistimed a punch clear, then bundled into his own player. I wonder if he is having trouble with his vision? He'll be praying his defence in front of him can hold on

Into the last 10 minutes we go. Will Motherwell - and Ally Maxwell - hold on? United's 428th high ball in the last few minutes bounces through for a corner...
Dundee Utd 2-3 Motherwell
Challenges flying in all over the place. Don't ask me why, but I bet in 29 years time you'll not get away with this kind of thing...
Dundee Utd 2-3 Motherwell
Ally Maxwell is really struggling now. He can barely take any goal kicks and Dundee United are throwing the kitchen sink at him. Surely he can't continue?

Quote MessageAnother brilliant goal. It's a great ball in from Dave Bowman, and a great finish. I think we're in for an interesting last 20 minutes.

What a game this is.
John O'Neil
Hold that thought. United are back in the game!
Just two minute after going two goals down, Dave Bowman, already with a goal this afternoon, this time turns provider with a wickedly whipped cross from the right. John O'Neil leaps unchallenged in the box, dispatching a ferocious header beyond Ally Maxwell from six yards.
Can United pull off a grandstand finish?
Ian Angus
Absolute scenes.
A floated ball into the feet of substitute Steve Kirk is controlled with one touch into the path of Iain Angus. He meets it first time and flush on his left foot from 20 yards, guiding it low beyond Main.
Twenty five minutes to go and Motherwell are two goals to the good. Surely there's no way back for United now?
Dundee Utd 1-2 Motherwell
Quote MessageIt's a tremendous goal. The ball comes in and Patterson and Clark go for it. It breaks kindly, but how brave is he here? Look. Oh, there's heads going, feet and everything going there. And he was as brave as a lion.

Dundee Utd 1-2 Motherwell
A stunned Phil O'Donnell wheels away to celebrate his thundering header smashing Motherwell back into the lead. The youngster seemed to take a whack in the build-up, but what a moment for the 19-year-old
Phil O'Donnell
Motherwell smash themeslves back into the lead through 19-year-old Phil O'Donnell!
What a time to get your first goal for the club. A Davie Cooper free-kick is floated in from 35 yards towards the back post caused problems for John Clark, who could only head the ball into the middle of the danger area. With feet and bodies flying, O'Donnell hurls himself at the ball, taking a whack for his trouble, to send the ball thumping into the net.
After three minutes, the Steelmen are back in the lead.
Dundee United 1-1 Motherwell
Quote MessageIt was a great strike but I can't help but feel a fully fit Ally Maxwell might have got a hold of that one

Dave Bowman
Just moments after Maxwell's injury and 10 minutes into the second half, Dave Bowman crashes in an equaliser for Dundee United.
It came from a quick counter-attack as Motherwell were almost in at the other end. However, within 15 seconds the ball breaks to Bowman on the right of the box, and his daisy cutter slices across goal and into the far corner under Ally Maxwell who is clearly in agony.
Game. On.
Dundee Utd 0-1 Motherwell
The Motherwell keeper is back on his feet. But only just. He is clutching his ribs with his right hand, wincing in pain. This could be pivotal for the Steelmen.
Dundee Utd 0-1 Motherwell
Ally Maxwell is in huge trouble. John Clark smashes into the Motherwell goalkeeper who comes for a cross, only for the Dundee United man to smash into the ribs of the keeper.
He is down on the ground clutching his chest. Can he play on? Motherwell don't have a subsitute goalkeeper, substitute striker Stevie Kirk away warming up...
Dundee United 0-1 Motherwell
Quote MessageI can't take my eyes off of Motherwell's Phil O'Donnell. He's just made another 45-yard run to support his forward players.

And after the shortest half-time break in history, we are off and running again...

Dundee Utd 0-1 Motherwell
A real let off for Motherwell. Ray McKinnon swings in Dundee United's first corner. It's missed by Ally Maxwell, but instead of scoring, Jim McInally can only blaze over.

Quote MessageIt's amazing, they [Motherwell] are like bees around a hive whenever Dundee United get the ball.
