Dele Alli is down and looks in pain, he's not looked fit all game to be honest. He'd missed a few games before this.

England have half a chance as Jesse Lingard fires over on the bounce. Bitty, niggly game now.

It couldn't be a penalty as the ball was dead but it certainly could have been a red card. Harry Kane drags a shot tamely wide to jeers as Yerry Mina and Raheem Sterling now tussle.

Proper battle this, pinching, pulling, pushing.

Ross Jacobs: How that wasn't a pen and a red I'll never know. Disgusting from Colombia.

Wally Williams: I forgot how dirty this match was.

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think Wilmar Barrios meant to headbutt him on the chin. I think he meant to push him in the chest and then it rode up into Jordan Henderson's head. However, it could have been a red card.

  6. 'Has to be red'published at 15:47 British Summer Time 26 April 2020

    Danny Murphy
    Former Liverpool and England midfielder

It has to be a red card. That is ridiculous. What is the point having VAR if someone headbutts someone in the face and not get sent off? You can't headbutt someone and not get a red card. That is ludicrous.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 26 April 2020

Is that a headbutt?! Wilmar Barrios has nudged Jordan Henderson with his head and there's going to be a VAR check...

Lothar Matthaus sitting next to Wes Brown in the 'Fifa legends' seats. Made me laugh two years ago and again now. Just imagine the small talk there.

As for your tweets, Adam I'd be inclined to agree and Jack, signing players from one good game in a World Cup is a pillar of our society.

Adam Salter: Watching the England vs Colombia match again has made me realise that throughout the World Cup we were pretty much a first 20-minute team. We’d look great, but then burn out and hang on defensively. If we didn’t score early, the games would be a struggle (like here)

Jack Tanner: ah Yerry Mina. A typical "don't buy someone just off a decent international tournament" bad signing. (see also: James Rodriguez)

After that bright England start it's rather come to a simmer out there. Not much happening for either side.

High on tension and anticipation, low on actual final third quality. Welcome to a knockout World Cup match.

Good run from right to left from Raheem Sterling though but he can't get a shot off.

The Manchester City man wouldn't find his international shooting boots until after the tournament.

Reference to the fact there that Liverpool had been linked with Yerry Mina during the tournament. Seems a super strange sort of signing for Barcelona to be honest. More Big Sam than Nou Camp.

England hit a flat free-kick to the back post and slabhead himself was up there for it. The game has hit a bit of a lull, a bit niggly. This is how I remember it going down.

Brilliant Annie. I wonder what % of football fans are first hooked in by a World Cup?

Terrestrial TV, summer evenings, exotic players. The dream.

Annie: Remembering the excitement of watching this in my London flat during the 2018 heatwave! This was the World Cup that got me into football.

Tom Quinn: It was stocktake at my work, we had the 5 Live coverage on the speakers and my half an hour break seemed to last a really long time. Watching the whole of extra time and then the penalties with 4 people crowded round a phone.

The first real attack from the men in yellow but it comes to nothing in the end - left-back Johan Mojica slashes high and very wide.

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 live

When England move the ball quickly and get the ball up to Raheem Sterling they look dangerous. He is one-on-one with the big boy Yerry Mina every time, and that is where they can get in.
