  2. 'Luiz gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen'published at 16:57 British Summer Time 31 May 2020

    Brazil 1-7 Germany

    Alan Hansen
Former Scotland and Liverpool defender in Brazil

I am totally distraught. I've been watching football for over 50 years, the high point was the Brazil team 1970, this is the low point.

"To be in Brazil to see them capitulate in that manner, you have to give Germany credit but that is a woeful, woeful performance that could not get any lower.

"I don't think the Germans can believe what they have just done. Everything is incredible. It is just disbelief what has happened. Nobody could have summed this up. Even though David Luiz gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen, I still feel sorry for him coming off the pitch in tears.

These guys have to stick around now and play a third or fourth play-off game. Which is the hard thing. All of the media will be on them, I hope they don't find a scapegoat.

This was a case of a group of individuals coming up against a very clinical side.

For once, Neuer is not there, you expect the sweeper keeper to be covering. He started to come and then went back.

Oscar scores one of the most pointless of World Cup goals. The Germans are furious, they are livid they have let one in and that tells you a lot about them.

Ahh, no clean sheet for Germany as Brazil get one back in injury-time, still time for six more ref?

Oscar is in acres of space, cuts past Jerome Boateng into the box and drives in a lovely finish past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Stunning finish. Every one of these goals is just sublime football. I think the Brazilians have had enough. The Germans can't believe it, they are shaking their heads in disbelief.

    Andre Schurrle

Andre Schurrle again, and there are still 11 minutes to play. Double figures…? Surely not!

David Luiz has been all over the shop and lets his man just run past him, Schurrle takes the ball in his stride down the left edge of the box and hammers an absolutely thunderous finish high at the near post via the crossbar.

Julio Cesar could not react, it flashes past him in rapid fashion.

Poor from Paulinho, a cross straight into the hands of Manuel Neuer.

Maybe it was a shot, if so then that makes it even worse.
