No point reflecting on the heartache that followed in that tournament right now, let's just bask in the warm glow of an exceptional England performance - what a team.
Hopefully that gets you in the mood for next week's return of the Premier League but for now, that's it from me. See you later!

"I had a barren run but as soon as the first goal goes in a few more usually follow."
'I'll have an extra cup of tea tonight'

England manager Terry Venables: "There was very little that did not please me. The team work and the movement pleased me particularly.
"The second half performance against Scotland gave the lads some more belief. In saying all that it doesn't make us a great team, it sends us into the quarter-finals but I will probably have an extra cup of tea tonight."

Lovely again from England and should it have been a penalty? Nicky Barmby plays a one-two with Robbie Fowler and appears to be brought down inside the box as he prepares to shoot, but nothing given.
It would have only been the second layer of icing on an already sumptuous cake for England anyway.

I think we can expect Kluivert will become a player who will start games for Holland from now. It is an important position. You have to have bite and that is what England have had tonight.

The Netherlands have one back and it is a lovely, lovely finish by the young Patrick Kluivert.
Dennis Bergkamp teed it up for the Ajax teenager with a neat hooked ball into the box and Kluivert than calmly slotted the ball through David Seaman's legs.
A nice finish but surely a consolation at this late stage.
