    Newcastle 3-0 Sheffield United

Newcastle make a final change, pointless as it is, as we enter stoppage time. That red card was so crucial to this game.

  2. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Newcastle 3-0 Sheffield United

Brilliant from Bashambauer, coming out of defence, playing a one-two, getting into the penalty area and then fizzing a ball across the face of goal. Billy Sharp would have scored that.

  3. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Newcastle 3-0 Sheffield United

A Premier League debut for Kieron Freeman, who replaces Oli McBurnie for Sheffield United. Newcastle send on Fabian Schar and Valentino Lazaro as well.

A second half to forget for the Blades, one to savour for Steve Bruce and co.

  4. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Newcastle 3-0 Sheffield United

Joelinton was replaced seconds after scoring by the way, Andy Carroll on in his place.

That Joelinton goal was so unlikely that it's gone down as Allan Saint-Maximin on the stats feed.

    Trust me, it was Joelinton.

    Newcastle 3-0 Sheffield United

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sheffield United have run out of steam. It was a simple tap in for Joelinton but he has been in the thick of it today even although we criticise him quite a bit. He's in the right positions and he's got his reward.

    JOELINTON (78 mins)

    JOELINTON SCORES!

    JOELINTON SCORES!

    JOELINTON SCORES!

In generations to come hundreds of thousands of Geordies will tell you in the dark corner of pub that they were there the day Joelinton scored in front of the Gallowgate End. They'll all be liars of course, and it is a shame that the number nine ends his long wait for a goal in front of an empty stand.

Miguel Almiron gets away on the left, cuts it across and even he can't miss that one from there. Sheffield United have imploded.

    Newcastle 2-0 Sheffield United

Matt Ritchie has a dig again from 30 yards but this time Dean Henderson gets everything behind it.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 75 mins

    Newcastle 2-0 Sheffield United

Chris Wilder rolls the dice and it's a debut for Richairo Zivkovic, on in place of Billy Sharp.

Also off is John Fleck, with Luke Freeman on.

  10. CLOSE!published at 73 mins

    Newcastle 2-0 Sheffield United

Control! Woooof Enda Stevens has a real lash at this. Billy Sharp does well on the right to keep the ball alive and put the ball back across, it runs all the way through to the left-back, steaming on to the ball, and he absolutely mullers it over.

Not very far over, but over. Just needed a bit more finesse.

  11. Henderson never really movedpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 21 June 2020

    Newcastle 2-0 Sheffield United

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

They used the spare man very well there with Danny Rose coming on the outside.

Matt Ritchie has caught that very well. It's gone to the near post though so I thought Dean Henderson would have had that covered. I just wonder whether he could have done a bit more with that. He never really moved.

  12. Postpublished at 72 mins

Newcastle are up to 12th in the as it stands table. Surely no way back for the 10 men from here?

GOAL - Newcastle 2-0 Sheffield Unitedpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 21 June 2020

    Matt Ritchie (68 mins)

Wonderful finish! It's sloppy again from Sheffield United as they lose the ball in midfield and from there on in it's single-mindedness from Matt Ritchie.

He runs at the defence, George Baldock backs off and Ritchie unleashes a swerving shot from 20 yards that flies into the back of the net. Dean Henderson didn't move!

Allan Saint-Maximin has been the best player on the park today. Whenever he gets the ball you feel like something is going to happen.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 66 mins

Here comes John Lundstram for Sander Berge. He's had an eye for a goal this season. Drinks!

  19. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Newcastle 1-0 Sheffield United

Even with a defeat, Sheffield United would only be two points behind Manchester United with eight games left. They're very much in the mix.

  20. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Newcastle 1-0 Sheffield United

We've got a game on our hands now. Allan Saint-Maximin is the difference maker and he skins Jack Robinson and pulls it back for Miguel Almiron but his finish is weak as you like. A backpass.

The Blades have got Robinson and Chris Basham as centre-halves now and neither of them are really out and out central defenders. Lord Lundstram is coming on.
