It's been a night to remember. Thanks for being with us for all the drama we've been through this evening.

West Bromwich Albion are back in the Premier League - congratulations to the Baggies. Cardiff and Swansea are in the play-offs, while Nottingham Forest fans will hope to wake up and find out this was all just a bad dream (sorry, it wasn't).

Barnsley, Birmingham, Luton and Middlesbrough are all staying up, while Wigan, Charlton and Hull have suffered the heartbreak of relegation.

The latter may yet change, depending how what the courts have to say about three issues.

But for now it's goodbye from us - we'll see you for the start of the Championship play-offs on Sunday. Take care.

  3. 'Proud & happy'published at 22:55 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

    FT: West Brom 2-2 QPR

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has been speaking to the press after his side's 2-2 draw with QPR was enough to secure promotion to the Premier League:

“You don’t know how exhausting it was this season. You can’t imagine how proud and happy I am.

“I managed my country (Croatia) for six years and I said no matter which club I manage nothing will compare when you are manager of your national team. I can’t say it’s the same but I feel as proud as I felt then.

“We’ve got work to do but I haven’t thought about it because of this crazy situation.”

  5. All change at the bottom in frantic finalepublished at 22:48 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

All of the five sides that occupied the bottom five in the table on the night of 2 July - after Hull had beaten Middlesbrough - have stayed up.

That was Luton, Barnsley, Stoke, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield.

    Quite a turnaround.

Nottingham Forest lost out on a play-off place despite starting the evening in fifth place and Swansea needing a five-goal swing to clinch the final spot.

Unfortunately for Forest fans that's what happened as Swansea beat Reading 4-1 and boss Sabri Lamouchi was not happy with his side losing out.

“It’s difficult to react," he said. "I’m here just because it’s obligatory. It’s a disaster.

"To lose everything in the last game at home. I’m thinking about our fans. I’m so sorry. I don’t have words.

"I don’t have any regrets, but we have made mistakes. What’s happened tonight, what’s happened to the end of the season, to be out of the play-offs - it’s unacceptable.”

Jude Bellingham was the last to leave the pitch at St Andrew's tonight, heading back to the dressing room almost an hour after the final whistle.

The 17-year-old completed his move to German giants Borussia Dortmund on Monday.

Blues' 3-1 loss to Derby wouldn't have been his preferred scoreline to bow out on, but results elsewhere mean Birmingham survive.

  9. Wigan 'hurting' - Cookpublished at 22:33 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

FT: Wigan 1-1 Fulham; Latics relegated

    Paul CookImage source, Rex Features

Wigan boss Paul Cook tells BBC Radio Manchester:

“I’ve got to say how proud I am of the players, with their energy, desire and will to win. We’re going to feel like we’ve let the fans down tonight. That’s just the way it’s going to be.

“We wish Fulham well in the play-offs. We’re hurting as you can imagine. We’ve just got to keep hold of our dignity because it’s painful.

“I feel physically sick for everyone. I can’t find anything good to say.

“I don’t want to [talk] about the appeal because the reality is, we shouldn’t be in this situation.”

  10. Bowyer faces uncertain Charlton future both on and off pitchpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

FT: Leeds United 4-0 Charlton Athletic

Charlton are relegated after a crushing 4-0 defeat at Champions Leeds coupled with wins for both Luton and Barnsley that saw them drop into the bottom three.

Former Leeds midfielder Lee Bowyer was unable to return to his old stomping ground and spoil their trophy presentation.

After the game, Bowyer was unable to elaborate more on what the future holds for him and his squad as the ownership situation continues to be in flux.

"More things of late have happened recently that have made me even more so not happy with what's happening here," Bowyer said.

"Its too early to say who's staying and who is going. To try and work miracles again like we did last summer, I don't know if it's going to be possible.

    "That's if we're allowed to."

  11. Jones return secures Hatters' safetypublished at 22:25 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

    FT: Luton 3-2 Blackburn

    Nathan JonesImage source, Rex Features

One of the biggest moves of lockdown saw Luton Town part company with former manager Graham Jones to bring back Nathan Jones to the Kenilworth Road hot seat.

Jones had endured a tough time after leaving the Hatters for Stoke City before they completed their promotion from League One, so there may well have been a sense of trepidation among some fans at his return.

But since restart, there can be no arguing with the impact he had on the pitch.

Luton lost just once in the last nine games, winning three of the last four.

  12. Sharing it with the fans...published at 22:22 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

    FT: West Brom 2-2 QPR

By all accounts, a decent number of West Bromwich Albion fans turned up at The Hawthorns tonight to celebrate their promotion to the Premier League.

Supporters were warned to stay away prior to the game because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but it looks like those who've turned up have now been joined by the Baggies players for a big party...

  13. Postpublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

    FT: Cardiff 3-0 Hull

The Tigers' season can be split in two, quite dramatically, with them having picked up only one league win since New Year's Day, since claiming their 11th Championship victory of 2019-20 on 1 January.

January's Deadline Day saw the departures of talismanic attacking duo Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen - to West Brom and West Ham respectively - and Hull haven't looked the same since. Bowen was the team's top scorer with 16 league goals this term.

    FT: Cardiff 3-0 Hull

Relegation ends Hull's three-year stay in the Championship, after they dropped down from the Premier League in 2017.

That was a year when three North East clubs were relegated from the top tier and it's safe to say things haven't improved for Sunderland, Middlesbrough or the Tigers since then.

Hull are going to be playing League One football next season for the first time since 2005.

They've had five seasons in the Premier League since then, over three spells in the top tier.

There'll be some big names in League One next season, won't there?

  16. Owls may face anxious waitpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

    FT: Sheff Wed 1-2 Middlesbrough

    Sheffield WednesdayImage source, Getty Images

Sheffield Wednesday's loss tonight leaves them 16th, eight points above the drop zone.

But amid reports they could yet face a sizeable points deduction - depending on the outcome of a misconduct charge brought by the English Football League, if the Owls are found guilty - then that eight-point gap might not be enough to keep them up.

Meanwhile Derby - who also face a misconduct charge - finished 16 points clear of danger. How big could their win over Birmingham tonight prove to be?

  17. How the courts could decide relegationpublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 22 July 2020

    FT: Wigan 1-1 Fulham

    WiganImage source, Getty Images

Could Barnsley's celebrations prove premature, however?

Wigan are down as it stands, but as BBC Sport's Simon Stone reports, the relegation battle could yet be decided in the courts.

The Latics have appealed against their 12-point deduction. That appeal is set for 31 July. The club were placed in administration on 1 July, just weeks after the club changed Hong Kong-based owners.

Their argument is that no-one - neither at Wigan nor the EFL - could have known what Au Yeung Wai Kay was going to do and therefore the punishment should be withdrawn.

    Gerhard StruberImage source, Getty Images

Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber has just been speaking to Sky Sports about his team's last-gasp efforts to stay up and the Austrian is emotional, even tearful, as he tries to describe how he's feeling.

"This is a special feeling right now," he says, before apologising as he has to take a moment to gather himself. "We've worked so hard for this the last few months.

"I always believed we could stay in the league. Now it's reality I'm so proud of my players. We'll have a big party.

"My team is a role model for football."

What a moment to savour for the 51-year-old former West Ham United manager.
