    Leeds 2-0 Stoke

Stoke defender James Chester is just not up to the speed of this game at all right now.

He's beaten to a ball 35 yards or so from his own goal and Leeds eventually work it to Patrick Bamford who shows good feet to get into a shooting position before Jack Butland denies him at his near post.

Leeds in danger of running riot here, especially with Helder Costa having scored so quickly after half-time.

    Game over.

Stuart Dallas plays a ball in behind James Chester for Helder Costa to latch on to and the Portuguese slots home an easy finish.

A nightmare for Chester, who only came on at half-time.

Big 45 minutes for both of these teams.

It's just over a week since the football world was stunned by the news that Wigan had been placed into administration.

The Latics face a 12-point deduction at the end of the campaign should they finish outside the bottom three, a hit that technically means that they are currently four points adrift of safety.

BBC Sport's Simon Stone went to the DW Stadium on Wednesday for their must-win game against QPR and you can read his piece by clicking here.

So, 1-0 to Leeds at half-time in what is the last of the Championship midweek matches.

Let's have a quick recap of what's gone before.

At the top of the table West Brom eased to a 2-0 win over Derby to go back to the summit and just eight points from guaranteeing promotion.

Brentford needed two late goals to beat Charlton to keep the pressure on the top two, while Fulham won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest in a match-up that could yet be repeated in the play-offs.

Swansea boosted their play-off bid with a win over Birmingham, who promptly parted ways with head coach Pep Clotet after a defeat that left them four points above the relegation zone.

Wigan, who are set to be hit with a 12-point deduction at the end of the campaign, grabbed a vital win over QPR and Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough hauled themselves out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win at Millwall.

The division's bottom two, Luton and Barnsley, played out a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road that keeps both in with a shout of pulling off a great escape.

... but were gifted a penalty in the closing seconds of the half and Mateusz Klich found the net from 12 yards to give the hosts a deserved lead at the interval.

As it stands, the Whites are going six points clear of third-placed Brentford with four games to go.

Struggling Stoke are going to have to show a bit more ambition in the second half if they're to take anything from this one now.

    Mateusz Klich

    Leeds on their way!

What on earth was Tommy Smith doing though?!

He hacked down Helder Costa as the Portuguese ran towards the byline and Mateusz Klich does the honours from the spot with a cool effort.

Huge goal for Leeds in their hunt for promotion and massive blow for Stoke who had defended so well up to then.

Remember the good weather we had through spring? Where's that gone?

It's pouring down at Elland Road today, not that it seems to have stopped Leeds from playing their normal game at all.

They're in total control here but, somehow, it remains goalless.

  13. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Leeds 0-0 Stoke

Stoke wing-back James McClean has got through a lot of defensive work in this opening 37 minutes or so.

This time he's on hand to head away as Mateusz Klich looks to latch on to Kalvin Phillips' chipped ball.

Moments later Leeds winger Jack Harrison smashes over from 18 yards as the ball ran into his path.

  14. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Leeds 0-0 Stoke

The visitors are really struggling to get out at this stage.

Leeds skipper Liam Cooper almost releases Helder Costa behind the Potters defence but the flag rightly goes up for offside.

  15. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Leeds 0-0 Stoke

Leeds continuing to put Stoke under pressure.

The Potters have been guilty of conceding possession a little cheaply in the past couple of minutes and that really is something they can ill-afford to do.

  16. Postpublished at 23 mins

The players are taking drinks now.

Leeds will be wondering how neither Patrick Bamford nor Tyler Roberts found the net just then.

    Incredible!

First Patrick Bamford gets in behind the Stoke defence and his effort is just, JUST, cleared off the line by James McClean and then Tyler Roberts is denied on the follow-up by a brilliant block from Danny Batth.

    How is it not 1-0?!

And just as I say that Leeds pull Stoke out of shape and only a brave Bruno Martins Indi block stops Mateusz Klich from making it 1-0 to the hosts.

Stoke have got to be excellent tactically if they're to take anything from this game.

They'll no doubt have watched Cardiff's 2-0 win over the Whites from a few weeks ago for inspiration.

The Bluebirds defended tremendously well that day and capitalised on two errors to take all three points.

So far the Potters have kept their shape well and looked like they might pose a threat on the break.

  20. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Leeds 0-0 Stoke

Tidy spell of Leeds passing ends with Patrick Bamford taking on the ball about 22 yards out and firing a couple of yards over.
