What an afternoon it has been - the Championship rarely disappoints, does it?

Pablo Hernandez was the hero for Leeds United, scoring a goal of true quality to move the Whites a step closer to a long-awaited promotion.

After missing out last year, surely Leeds will clinch a place in the top two this season.

Meanwhile, Stoke City bolstered their survival bid as Birmingham City sunk even closer to the relegation zone.

There are seven Championship games coming up on Tuesday, but the second tier will find out the identity of one of its new members for next season tomorrow.

Oxford United face Wycombe Wanderers in the League One play-off final at Wembley.

Do join us for coverage of that one but until then, thanks for joining us.

    FT: Stoke 2-0 Birmingham

Next up for managerless Birmingham is a home game against 21st-placed Charlton. That's looking like a must-win game for both teams.

A little higher up the table now then are Stoke, who will be delighted with their victory today.

Meanwhile, 15th-placed Wigan - who have appealed against their potential 12-point deduct after going in to administration - are five points further ahead, but would be bottom of the table as it stands if their punishment is upheld.

    Bottom sixImage source, .

Stoke's win moves them not just four points clear of the relegation zone, but out of the bottom six altogether. In fact they're out of the bottom seven, up to 17th, above Birmingham.

Today's result at the bet365 Stadium probably won't have been welcomed by fans of Charlton, Huddersfield or Middlesbrough - who all drop a place - nor the sides in the bottom three.

It's still very, very close down there.

Who's your money on to take that final Championship play-off spot?

It's looking like absolutely anyone's at the moment, with even Blackburn Rovers down in 12th not completely out of the picture yet.

If anything best sums up the race for the play-offs it's probably the past eight days Bristol City have had.

They sacked Lee Johnson after losing to Cardiff last weekend because their season was over and two wins later, because everyone else has been dropping points left, right and centre, they're right back in the mix.

We're in for a thrilling finale to the season, that's for sure.

  8. Leeds close in on promotionpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Top sixImage source, .

Leeds United fans will be thrilled to see what their victory at has done to the top of the table.

The Whites now have a six-point advantage over third-placed Brentford.

They need a maximum of four points from their final three games to clinch promotion.

Fulham go to West Brom on Tuesday in a massive game at the top.

Cardiff remain a point inside the play-off places after Swansea's defeat.

  9. FT: Swansea 0-1 Leedspublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

Leeds just about deserved that victory.

The Whites were the better side after the break, and could have gone ahead through Patrick Bamford's close-range header.

But Pablo Hernandez showed his quality to find the bottom corner with his late winner against his former club.

It's a first win in Swansea for Leeds since April 1964 and the days of the late Don Revie and Jack Charlton.

With games against Barnsley, Derby and Charlton to come, a place in the top flight is so, so close for the Elland Road side.

  10. FT: Stoke 2-0 Birminghampublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

For Stoke, this was quite some way to bounce back after losing 5-0 at Leeds on Thursday.

Michael O'Neill's men climb above Birmingham in to 17th.

Danny Batth and Sam Clucas' first-half goals earned them the points.

Leeds United take a massive step towards promotion to the Premier League.

Pablo Hernandez's late, late goal means the Whites need just four more points to end their 16-year exile from the top flight.

It's three wins in a row for Marcelo Bielsa's side, while Swansea miss the chance to move into the top six.

  12. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Swansea 0-1 Leeds

Leeds keeper Illan Meslier punches the corner away.

The Whites cross halfway but can't make the most of the fact Erwin Mulder is out of position.

Gaetano Berardi into the thick of the action as he heads a cross behind for a Swansea corner.

The keeper's coming up as well!

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Swansea 0-1 Leeds

Now Leeds make a change, as Gaetano Berardi comes on for Jack Harrison.

The Whites are winding down the clock, but Keith Stroud will probably add on more time for this.

We've had the five added minutes - but the game continues.

  15. SUBSTITUTION (Swansea)published at 15:28 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Swansea 0-1 Leeds

Swansea made three changes in response to that goal.

Bersant Celina is among the men who have come on.

Home keeper Freddie Woodman needs treatment on a leg injury, and hobbles off.

So Erwin Mulder climbs off the bench for the closing stages.

We've had four of the five added minutes, but we've only played about one minute with all the treatment and changes.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Stoke 2-0 Birmingham

A vital, deserved win for Stoke.

    Managerless Birmingham's poor form continues.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Swansea 0-1 Leeds

Pablo Hernandez whips off his top in celebration with that goal, and gets a yellow card for his troubles.

    He won't care one bit.

Into five minutes of added time but the goal celebrations and a flurry of substitutions mean they'll be playing longer.

  18. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Stoke 2-0 Birmingham

No such late drama in the Potteries.

Substitute Caolan Boyd-Munce whips in a dangerous left-footed corner from the right for Birmingham and it almost finds Gary Gardner at the far post, but Gardner is penalised for a foul on Tommy Smith.

Stoke are going to earn a massive three points to move four points clear of danger, with three games to go.

Would you believe it - Leeds have surely won it at the death!

Luke Ayling is played in behind the Swansea defence and cuts the ball back from the byline.

A Swansea defender gets a boot to the ball, but Pablo Hernandez picks it up on the penalty spot.

The Spaniard takes a touch and sends a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.

Freddie Woodman can't get a hand near to the ball and it goes in off the post.

Cue wild celebrations from the visitors.

  20. Postpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 12 July 2020

    Stoke 2-0 Birmingham

The visitors don't look particularly urgent. There's one minute of the 90 to go.

    Stoke appear fairly comfortable.
